Update, Tuesday: It’s now available.
After existing in beta with developers for a few months, Apple is preparing to release the second update to OS X Yosemite in the coming days to customers. The OS X 10.10.2 update was seeded to Apple employees this week under the build 14C109, which is a bit newer than the most recent developer preview. Sources provided the release notes, and there are some notable feature additions and fixes…
First, the new release adds the ability for iCloud Drive to be viewed in Time Machine. This means users will be able to track changes over time, and locate lost items that were previously in their iCloud Drive accounts. Next, Apple says that WiFi disconnection issues will be fixed in this release. Apple has been promising WiFi fixes for some time, but, based on recent history, it’s unclear whether this release will actually solve the issues users have been reporting.
Earlier this month, reports from security researchers revealed that OS X Yosemite’s enhanced Spotlight feature loads remote email content even with that preference disabled within the native Mail application. The release notes say that this issue is fixed in 10.10.2. Other fixes are included for some issues in VoiceOver, loading web page content in Safari, Bluetooth connectivity, and language switching.
Here are all of full release notes via Apple employees:
- Resolves an issue that may cause WiFi to disconnect
- Resolves an issue that may cause web pages to load slowly
- Fixes an issue that caused Spotlight to load remote email content when the preference was disabled in Mail
- Improves audio and video sync when using Bluetooth headphones
- Adds the ability to browse iCloud Drive in Time Machine
- Improves VoiceOver speech performance
- Resolves an issue that causes VoiceOver to echo characters when entering text on a web page
- Addresses an issue that may cause the input method to switch languages unexpectedly
- Improves stability and security in Safari

Now Aviable?
“Available” and no, it’s not. Not likely for a few more weeks.
This is what the beginning of the post says;
“After existing in beta with developers for a few months, Apple is preparing to release the second update to OS X Yosemite in the coming days to customers.”
I don’t read that as it won’t be available for a few more weeks. I understand that as it will be available to the general public this week.
I have it. 1/25/15
Great news. Let’s hope the rollout goes smoothly.
Looks like the audio output device bug, when FUS, still isn’t retained.
When will the Darn Native Photos app will be released ?
When will the Darn Native Photos app will be released ?
My best guess would be March when they hold the next special event. They’ll wait until then because it’s such a big program/update that they’ll demo it. If they don’t release it that day they’ll announce it that day. Expect it in March.
I hope the bug where the mouse starts to lag and keyboard input slows to 2-5 delays. There is a 17 page tread on Apples support page. It’s driving me nuts.
Biggest issue I have right now on Yosemite is Pixelmator crashing all the freaking time. Seriously, it’s suppose to be one of the star applications for OS X and it has been updated for Yosemite already.
OS X itself has a handful of qwirks and glitches that I’ve just learned to put up with. It’ll be interesting to see how many of them go away.
Did you do a clean install or an upgrade when you went to Yosemite?
Upgrade from Mavericks. Usually I do a clean install whether I need to or not but what few issues I’ve had are so insignificant that I can’t bother myself to go through the trouble of wiping the drive again.
@AeronPeryton: Wait until 10.10.2 is available for download off the slipstreamed version off the AppStore once it becomes available then create a thumb drive to do a clean install – when you restore your stuff manually copy the stuff form your user directory to the external hard disk and avoid restoring the old configuration files or otherwise all hell will break loose. End of the day the best thing to do is always do a clean install instead of an upgrade – there are always going to be too many variables that can make things go up the shoot and around the bend.
Could we see 10.10.2 and iOS 8.1.3 this week or next? I hope so.
I’d bet more on 10.10.2 coming with iOS 8.2 and Apple Watch.
Niether will be out this week, more “testing” needs to be done and the Apple Watch isn’t out until March.
@Orlandoech I know, I mean it will be released at a later date, most likely timed with those releases.
I don’t think that’ll happen – there is a good possibility though that we’ll see OS X 10.10.3 and iOS 8.2 launched in conjunction with their Photos application they’ve been promising about since WWDC 2014 so they might roll it altogether as an event of some sort, maybe a refresh of some product lines – maybe the MacBook Air 12″ model that has much rumoured about.
Both launched today. You were right.
@Avenged110
@Orlandoech
WRONG.
How about apple mail … that app has done nothing but disappoint!
Dropped Wifi resolution….Its about time.
VoiceOver still does not work in 10.10.2 on mac mini 64 bit
“Next, Apple says that WiFi disconnection issues will be fixed in this release. Apple has been promising WiFi fixes for some time, but, based on recent history, it’s unclear whether this release will actually solve the issues users have been reporting.”
Considering most of their machines only have Wifi connections, it’s taken them far too long to fix these issues.
Just updated.. and now the LEFT USB port doesn’t recognise Apples own full sized usb keyboard.
the USB port still works, i can plug other devices into it, like mouse, thumbdrives etc, they work fine, but the keyboard doesnt. However it does work in the Right USB port…. this is getting so tiresum now.
The feature of Time Machine recognizing iCloud as a drive to store backups was never implemented, was it? Is there any alternative way/service that Time Machine can recognize as a drive? I am currently using CrashPlan with it own application but would feel more comfortable with Time Machine to create a bootable backup that includes all data, including applications. Do you have any info on options?
I’m still unclear. Can we use iCloud Drive with Time Machine? Is that a drive we can back up the computer to? Please: Yes or no.
