Debunk: That’s not an iPhone 6C with Touch ID, new iPhones unlikely for August

No, that’s not an iPhone 6C with Touch ID, and Apple isn’t planning new iPhones for August…

There is a lot of speculation right now that Apple might have leaked an upcoming device on the webpage for its new iPhone Lightning Dock, while another report claims the company has new iPhones on tap for debut in August. Bad news: both aren’t true.

The iPhone image showed what appeared to be an iPhone 5c with Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor not yet included in the device (pictured above). That led to a long list of sites reporting that this might be the first look at a next-generation iPhone 5c model, but it’s not.

Sources confirmed that the image was just an incorrect render, and that it doesn’t reflect any plans Apple may or may not have for an upcoming device. Although we have seen upcoming product images slip out in materials from tech companies before, rest assured that this is not one of those times.

And the same sources had something to say about that rumored August introduction for new iPhones. It’s not currently in the cards, and not something Apple is planning, so at this point it’s unlikely we’ll see new iPhones before the fall.

  1. duh…. obviously Apple was not going to confirm that’s actually a future iPhone model
i still believe that might be the 6C or some kind of 5C-2

I think it could be a 5S in a 5C case. Possible for an upcoming free level iPhone. You don’t “accidentally” put touchID on an iPhone. I agree it isn’t a 6C, but I think it could be a 5S C or whatever they’ll call it.

    • the iphone 5c cases are not that glossy… and the iphone 5s has round volume buttons.

So? iPhone 5 has round buttons too…and it was rebadged into 5c. Glossy case may be due to the photo lighting.

@Fallenjt JT but the 5C didn’t have round volume buttons:

I know. My comment said a 5S in a 5C case. That means the internals of the 5S in the case of a 5C. It’s a promotional picture, things are always glossier in pictures. It’s plastic, it’s super glossy.

Looked like some rounded edges and touch ID. Just saying.

  4. the image above looks like a silicon case on a 6 or 6Plus.

The story author doesn’t do a good job at pointing out the phone in question. From the left, the first 2 images are in fact an iPhone 6 Plus and an iPhone 6 in silicone cases, respectively. It’s the image on the far right that’s raised so many eyebrows, as it’s clearly an iPhone 5c but with a Touch ID sensor. Most likely it’s a Photoshop mishap.

Mishap? You’re talking about Apple promoting page, not something like high school student project. No mishap there, it’s leaked on purpose…like new Bluetooth keyboard in Czech’s apple website lately…

  5. How about a 5cs?

  6. Cory © (@Nardes) - 9 years ago

It’s obviously an iPhone 6/6 Plus with a case on it. Look at the bottom… you can see where the case stops.

    • Cory © (@Nardes) - 9 years ago

Alright… apparently its the one all the way to the right. I blame my colorblindness for not noticing a colored back on that

Think it is actually a safe bet that touch id will come to the iPhone c and even the iPod Touch just to consolidate the supply chain.

  8. nrwfish - 9 years ago

notice the alleged 6c has the iPhone 6 background, while the iPhone 5c’s all have the colored dot background matching the phone and case Apple sells. The background on the phone in question matches the background on all iPhone 6 models displayed.

Those iPhone 6/Plus models have a blue case on them. That’s why (from a distance) it looks like a C model.

They’ll tell you owt. (Owt is a northern-English word meaning ‘anything’)
