Facebook releases standalone Events app for iPhone

Facebook is today introducing an Events app that will give you a standalone experience for keeping track of all your Facebook events separate from its main app.

The app will let you view and stay on top of all your events from friends and Pages you like on Facebook, and give you notifications on upcoming and nearby events you and others are planning:

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend or even right now, you can easily browse event recommendations based on time, location and your interests. Explore events happening where you are or in places you like to go using the interactive map. You can also search for events in any city if you’re planning ahead for a trip.

The app has a built-in calendar view that lets you see your iPhone’s calendars from within the app, and from there you can add new events or create a new Facebook event:

The app also lets you search for nearby events.

Everything you do in the app will be visible on Facebook through the main app and on the desktop, so the app is essentially just an optional way of managing and viewing events from Facebook.

The app is currently only available for iPhone users in the US. You can download it on the App Store now.
