If steve wants to shake things up, try releaseing the iPhone on the LAST day at the LAST event of the WWDC. Otherwise, if told or released on the first day, will get all the deveolpers and attendees either day dreaming or playing with their 2nd gen iphones, or applying for credit cards to purchase one...

Seriously, the way things are going for Apple at the moment,
announce in June (not at WWDC, since when was anything that big announced at WWDC?) Who started that
ship Sept-Dec timeframe, given AT&T's schedule & the number of countries with G3+

B U T ... if stocks are running out, Apple can't afford to go a month without sales, can they?

I'm sure they need to shift the old stock, because nobody really wanted a 2G version a year ago. They won't sell a single one of them (unless they're $100) after a 3G gets released.
