Study: iPad usage nearly quadrupled among the small business market in 2011

A new national study indicates the iPad nearly quadrupled among the small business market in 2011.

The Business Journal is a Charlotte N.C.-based solutions platform for companies targeting business resolution makers. Its recent study, which is fully available on March 31, highlights Apple’s iOS tablet as “the fastest growing technology among the SMB market” due to usage growing from 9 percent in 2010 to 34 percent in 2011.

More information is available below.

Additional findings illustrate the iPad’s rate of familiarity reaching “incredibly high levels” since its April 2010 launch. Apparently, 75 percent of small business owners claim they are either somewhat or very familiar with the slate.

The Business Journals’ Vice President of Research Godfrey Phillips said the growth demonstrates a new phenomenon that is gripping the SMB market:

“Our research has shown that for SMB owners, productivity and efficiency, which used to be the central benefits of technology, are now declining in importance compared to accessibility. Now, it’s crucial that business owners have access to their business information and data, anytime and anywhere. The iPad, as well as smartphones and cloud computing, are all part of this new trend and are experiencing significant growth as a result of that need.”

Further analysis of the SMB market depicts 34 percent of iPad users as “tech-savvy and financially successful.” The larger portion of the segment, approximately 72 percent, portrays iPad users in the SMB market as college educated with an annual household income of $176,000. Moreover, their small businesses have existed about 28 years and have an average $9.2 million in annual sales.

The study surveyed 1,400 business owners with five to 499 employees each.
