New iPad figures from Gazelle suggest that owners of iPad 2 and iPad 3 models may be preparing to upgrade to the iPad 5. Gazelle told me that they are seeing five times as many iPad trade-ins as last year, with the trade-in rate increasing as the month progresses. Apple is due to launch the iPad 5 on 22nd October. Over half of all iPads being traded-in this year are the iPad 2 and 3 models.

I have an iPad 2, was thinking of upgrading to the 5 but maybe I will get a windows 8 tablet… Paying $700 for a device I mainly use for web browsing in games is not worth if, I would rather pay less and have full windows plus I would have access to iTunes and iTunes Store. Just no iPad apps….
I’d suggest having a proper play with a Windows 8 tablet before making your decision …
I have a surface rt, I just wish I had desktop apps. And the new intel atom ones do
Don’t try and justify it. Other than a price decision, no other point could make that a good decision.
Justify what?
Obviously the Windows tablet will meet his needs more than an iPad. I love my iPad but it isn’t the end all of tablets.
I think iOS7 is the reason for the increase in trade-ins. It’s simply upgrader’s remorse combined with the closure of a path to revert to iOS6. http://9to5mac.com/2013/09/19/buyers-remorse-heres-how-to-go-back-to-ios-6-while-you-still-can/
Certainly the iPad 2 is notably slower on iOS 7 than iOS 6
I’ve got an iPad 2. It is running iOS 7. For what I use it for the performance is acceptable.
I have the iPad 2 also, as I’ve been waiting for LTE to roll out in the UK (which it finally has). It’s still perfectly usable, but noticeably slower. Will be pleased to upgrade to the iPad 5.
iPad 3 is also quite slow and laggy on iOS 7. Should spur a wealth of upgrades to an iPad with an A7X chip.
My iPad 2 actually seems faster on iOS 7 than iOS 6! I will be upgrading to the iPad 5 when it’s available! :)
