Apple updated its mobile shopping apps for both iPhone and iPad today, with each platform getting a different set of new features or fixes. On the iPhone, improvements were made to the way in-store notifications are handled. These notifications can be triggered by a variety of events, such as a Genius Bar appointment or a nearby iBeacon.
What’s New in Version 2.9.2
Improvements to In-Store Notifications, including ability to view notifications in the app as well as on Lock screen. (US only)
Various improvements and performance enhancements.
On the iPad app (which is still a separate download for some reason), shoppers can now purchase Apple gift cards from directly within the app. The amounts can range from $20 to $2,000. The gift cards can be mailed to the recipient via the postal service, or sent as a gift card code through email for near-instant delivery.
What’s New in Version 1.1
Now buy Apple Store Gift Cards right from the app. Gift cards can be shipped by mail or delivered within 24 hours via email and they’re available in any amount from $25 – $2,000.
Various improvements and performance enhancements.
Both updates are available on the iOS App Store (iPhone, iPad).

Apple are setting a very low standard for app developers. Separate iPhone and iPad apps and a change log which states “Various improvements and performance enhancements”. Not exactly informative!
