Apple removes iAd Gallery from the App Store

After almost 2 years without any updates, Apple’s iAd Gallery app has been pulled from the App Store. Originally introduced in April of 2011, the app was meant to showcase the best ads on the iAd Platform, Apple’s then relatively new mobile advertising push.

However, the app received little attention after introduction, languishing in abandonment as it missed many milestones, such as the transition to 4″ display resolution and iOS 7 design changes. The app’s last update was in September 2012, where it was given a fix to run on iOS 6.

The app is believed to have been pulled the first week of June, around the time of WWDC 2014.

An archived version of Apple’s iAd site shows the app featured as recently as April, but absent today:

Several other Apple apps have been pulled from the App Store in the last couple years, including Cards, Keynote Remote, and Texas Hold ‘Em. It’s expected that iPhoto for  iOS will disappear with the launch of iOS 8.

Rest in peace, iAd Gallery; Apple’s most unloved app.
