OtterBox launches durable, fast charging Resurgence Power Case for iPhone 5/5s

OtterBox is adding a new collection of protective cases to its accessory lineup today with the introduction of its new Resurgence series. The Resurgence case is similar in concept to other battery pack case offerings from Mophie and similar case makers, but the Resurgence iPhone case boasts Military-rated drop protection (MIL STD 810G-516.6) as you would expect from an OtterBox case.

Superior protection isn’t the only extra benefit to OtterBox’s charing case. The 2,000 milliamp hour nominal lithium ion battery doubles your iPhone battery usage, and OtterBox says the Resurgence case will automatically stop charging your iPhone when your battery reaches full capacity. This auto-stop technology differs from other battery packs which continue to charge your device despite being full…The iPhone 5s battery case utilizes auto-stop technology, which conveniently shuts off the case when the phone has reached a full charge, saving extra battery power for later and eliminating the need to closely watch the device’s battery level when charging. Resurgence supports both wired and wireless syncing without removing the case and includes a headphone jack extender which doubles as a headphone cord keeper.

The OtterBox Resurgence Power Case is available in a variety of colors for $99.95 for pre-order from OtterBox.com and will be available at other retailers where OtterBox is carried soon.

These specific cases are only compatible with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, of course, so don’t expect them to be compatible with a future, redesigned iPhone we’re expecting later this fall. If you’re planning on sticking to the iPhone 5/5s for a while, though, OtterBox’s Resurgence Power Case looks like a solid option for having power and protection on-the-go.

  1. Nice, just in time for the iPhone 6!….

My thoughts exactly! Hopefully they will have one available for the 6 shortly after launch…

Not sure if they have released a iPhone 6 case yet, but i know there are other charging cases available for the 6 already.

Ha, I’m using the Anker premium version and it works great at $40. http://amzn.to/1qERC7O

95% of the time my phone is in an Otterbox Armor. I also have a Mophie JuicePack that I mainly use on trips. The Mophie works decent but I doubt they could find cheaper materials to work with if they tried (and they obviously have). If OB can get one of these out fairly quickly for the iPhone 6 I’d definitely pick one up.

Similar here. I have a Commuter. But bring my Lenmar Meridian with me when I know I’ll be away from an outlet.

I feel like, unless you can manually trigger when the case charges the phone (a la the Mophie Juicepack line), this is going to be hell on your device’s internal battery.

The price leaves something to be desired…I would much rather use a OB Defender $40 and a Anker rechargeable battery pack $20.

A pretty decent concept, but unless one is really struck by tragedies now and then, I don’t see a point of ruining the look of a phone with such oversized case. A normal leather slider works just fine

    RIP Mophie

Looks bulky and I prefer my RAVPower 3000mAh external battery pack which is more portable and can charge different devices.

A waterproof power case would be nice.
It would solve the two issues I have with my iPhone: not waterproof, not enough battery capacity.
I know I can have a waterproof case plus an external battery, but to carry the extra battery is a hassle.
