Buffer releases official app for Mac, lets you add to your queue from the menu bar

Buffer has released its first official app for the Mac today, bringing an easy way to add content to your Buffer queue right from the menu bar. Buffer already lets you share social media updates from multiple accounts at once via its web, iOS, and Android clients, but now you can do much the same via Mac OS X.

The app is quite simple in functionality, and doesn’t actually give you most of the features found on the full web interface. Sadly, it seems to be useless if you want to schedule your posts for specific times.  But when you just need to add a new item to your Buffer, this quick menu bar icon lets you choose which accounts it should go to and send it away to your queue. Notably, you can in fact drag links and/or images to the icon if you wish.

According to the App Store description:

Any link, text, picture or video you want to share, just add it to your Buffer. Your updates will automatically be scheduled and spaced out throughout the day to post to your favorite social networks. Plus, any update can also be “posted now” inside the app.

Say you find 5 great articles and 2 funny images you want to share. If you post them all in a row, you might flood your friends and followers who are online – and totally miss those who aren’t. Instead, add these posts to your Buffer, and you’ll have great social updates for the next few days.

“Buffer for Twitter and Facebook” is free on the Mac App Store.

Thanks for posting this Stephen. We’ll definitely be adding some of the missing features in the next few updates including the ability to Custom Schedule, Share Now & Share Next. :)

Keen to hear everyones thoughts on the first version!

  2. Have just installed this. There seems to be no option to add in images, just text. Or are we missing something?

Just updated the article. It seems you can drag links and images to the icon to create those kinds of posts.

A great alternative to Buffer is Polarbear app for Mac. http://www.polarbearapp.com
    I love the simplicity.
