Lining up with our earlier report, Apple has reportedly scheduled a media event for Tuesday, September 9, which we can only assume will be the unveiling of its new iPhone lineup expected this fall. ReCode reports:
Apple has scheduled a big media event for Tuesday, Sept. 9 — a date to which Apple numerologists will strain to attribute significance. As with September events past, the focal point of this one is to be Apple’s next-generation iPhones, which are expected to feature larger displays of 4.7 and 5.5 inches and run speedy new A8 processors. Apple declined comment.
While an event in the second week of September would line up nicely with past iPhone unveilings, there is still no confirmation on what exactly we’ll be seeing at the event. It looks like Apple has put the wheels in motion for scheduling the event, but it doesn’t appear that press has received invites or any confirmation from Apple.
There has been lots of speculation about how Apple will introduce the rumoured 4.7 and 5.5-inch models of the next-generation iPhone. Recent reports claimed that the 5.5-inch model could be delayed until after October, or possibly into 2015, but it’s unclear what that might mean for the device getting stage time alongside a smaller 4.7-inch model in September.
ReCode, which has a solid track record when it comes to Apple event dates, also recently reported along with others that Apple was planning to introduce its much rumored iWatch device in October.
Update: Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal are also reporting Apple is planning an event for September 9.

I knew it!
I have a friend who relayed chatter about an iPhone 6 release party on September 26th. An unveiling on the 9th fits well with the 26th date – as Apple usually announces about two weeks before availability in stores and two weeks before delivery.
Apple wouldn’t release it on the 26th if they announce it on the 9th. They would release it on the 19th. They always do the following Friday.
Just relaying what a friend said about a “release party” with a bunch of guys from Apple. But who knows, the 19th sounds good too.
No, the iPhone 6 will launch on Sept. 16th, in keeping with previous launch patterns. Its not “about 2 weeks”. It is “exactly the following Friday”.
Get your dates right, pal. The 16th is a Tuesday. I think you meant the 19th, which is a Friday.
I wish I could post a gif of Homer Simpson shaking his hands, jumping up and down “oh my god oh my god oh my god!!!”
I’m ready, seems like we’ve been getting iPhone 6 rumours for far too long, I seem to recall the first one circulating the day after the iPhone 5S was announced/released. Although even with the rumours for the iPhone 6 there are still a lot of unknowns, we know it’ll be a larger phone but a lot of the other features have conflicting reports so hopefully Apple can surprise us this time round.
Can’t wait!
Of course you cant. You’ll buy whatever they’ll announce. Good. Not Good. Exciting. Boring….
I think you and those who are like you are the reason why Apple is going so slow developing new technologies.
You realize that the people who line up / preorder iPhones right at launch are a fairly small percetage of overall iPhone sales, right?
The iPhone 5 sold 5 million in its first weekend. Apple sold 150 million iPhones in the year following the iPhone 5 launch. That means 3.33% of the sales that year were at launch, and only a percentage of those were the people you describe.
You actually have a good point. Thank you. Never thought of it this way. (I hope you’re numbers are right though, since I don’t have time to check:)
Right on. If your only requirement is that it has an Apple logo then that’s all you will get.
Make the company, or any company, earn your business.
I’d bet most of the upcoming iPhone features are already available on the Samsung phone I have in my hands right now.
Chill out. Chill out.
I didn’t say Samsung is better. They are still junk.
I just meant that LOTS of people will buy anything Apple makes and will think of it as a holy product.
Like Apple TV.
Maps.
iOS 7.
Troll. People don’t buy everything Apple makes. Like…the iPhone 5c, Apple TV, the plastic MacBook, the Magic Mouse and some of the iPods. These were terribly designed and didn’t sell much.
Their slow because they take the time to get it right, and you can count on that. And yes, if its a product I want and Apple happens to make it, I buy it without looking further, so yeah I like many people trust Apple products.
I happen to do the same with my cars, I have one brand that over the years I have come to trust, and when I want a new model I buy it sight unseen without a test drive, they have never once let me down either.
There are not many manufacturers that make products so consistently good that you can do such things….
Orrrr… maybe having owned a few Apple devices over a period of time, he has come to expect that Apple will meet his needs in a way that makes him happy. Perhaps there is still room in his psyche for Apple to let him down, which at some point, they undoubtedly will, but for NOW, based on past experience, he is excited. What’s wrong with that? Nothing. The real question is, why are you such a negative Nancy? I mean, what company has done you so wrong that you hate to see others excited about an improved product that they will use nearly every day? Is it really that you are against the idea of being excited about products in general? Cuz you know.. that’s cool. Valid point. Maybe it’s bad to be a gadgethead. But maybe this ISN’T the focus of his existence. Like right now, I’m posting this long rant. One might be tempted to think that this is what I do all day. Clearly, this is what makes me tick. But it’s not. I’m sitting here on a conference call, listening to some shmoe talk about plans for a new software package that we’re going to release internally in September to great fanfare. It’s dull. So I’m here, cruising the apple rumor site to see if anything is interesting. Soon I’ll probably go have some lunch. Maybe take off early and go play with the kids if my 3 o’clock can be rescheduled. Back to school in a couple weeks, they are. Maybe we’ll go to the theme park we live 30 minutes from. You get my point, right? This is not life. Nothing anyone posts here suggests what their whole life is about. You can only get a snippet of what that guy is thinking right now. And right now, he’s excited about an upgrade to his phone. Because he likes his phone. Not because he’s a sheep… just because he has history to draw from and can anticipate good stuff. Don’t rain on the parade, man. Also, you know… if you’re having a bad day, which has led you to come and drop negativity on that guy… I’m sorry about that. Why don’t you go take a break from your regularly scheduled day? Go for a drive with the windows down and the tunes cranked up. Let your hair blow. Feel the joy in the world. Or, you know… do whatever makes you happy. Then come back and say hello to the internet when you’re feeling better. Life is pretty good, man. It really is. It’s too good to be bringing others down, you know?
Here’s what I got from this:
September the 9th. This indicates we will see 9 models (3 colors, 3 storage sizes for each color).
They will be announcing TWO iPhones (4.7″ and 5.5″) that will be running iOS8… So 2x8x8 = 128… GB! There will be a 128GB model!
And since we have already established that there will only be 3 sizes of each, that means they will be discontinuing the 16GB model, making the base model the 32GB model! How much will that model cost you?
It will be announced on the 9th day of the 9th month, or 9-9. This indicates that the base model will start at $99!
September’s birthstone is Sapphire, so we will be seeing Sapphire displays!
Also, 9 is the atomic number of Fluorine, the primary component of fluorosurfactants that are used in… WATERPROOFING. The next iPhone will be WATERPROOF!
Finally, the birth flowers of September include forget-me-nots, meaning that Tim Cook will seemingly “forget” to announce something before reviving the legendary “One More Thing”… The iWatch! BOOM! *Drops Mic*
Honestly .. I wish this comment was true in every single word.Hahahah, joke.
I rarely respond to comments, but Jesse you are the man! September Sapphire, waterproof and birth flowers. I’m still laughing! Thank you for your contribution. Made my day…
I think you cracked it
Spot on!
applause
Awesome, dude. :=)
. • Ꮭ Ꮎ Ꮭ • .
Amazing..
You got it!
This made me smile.
AMAZING lol
3 models?? HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!! … (you comment sounds that stupid).
C’mon, it’s a joke, man – lighten up! :-)
It’s like your mouth is falling down the stairs.
No matter how ludicrous one makes a post, there will always be those who are incapable of recognizing satire. =)
Believe me, with the amount of the iSheep here, there is no way I can recognize who’s being serious or sarcastic.
@ Eli Matar: Here’s a hint:
No one who uses a term like “iSheep” is really serious (or capable) about anything because it shows that they aren’t even thinking.
@ eli Mater
So, why are you here along w the ISHEEP ??
Because I love Apple. But I’m not a herd member. If they make something bad, I wont buy it. I make sure they know its shit.
You my friend are the shit!
Lol you won 9to5
I would take such great pleasure if all of your satire turned out to be fact.
Must say, one of the most entertaining posts I’ve read here in a long time. Nicely Done! Most of the time, I just browse through these places and laugh, mostly at the Droid fans doing exactly what they accuse us of doing. But seriously man, you accomplished so many beautiful perspectives on how people can read into the smallest detail / post, and blow it up into something for the rest of the forum to get all up in an uproar about. And it never ends. . . Rock on!
Still, would be damn cool!
I don’t think people realize just how big this day is gonna be, nor how smart Apple is for doing what it has been doing, and will continue to do for quite a long time as far as I can see. Think Different people, and don’t be such haters, who really benefits from this? Then again, in one ear, and out the other . . . an all new type of I/O device – ignorance. ;)
SUPAMAN FTW!
stay away from pot – actually don’t this was gold.
Brilliant.
Awesome post. I really like your predictions. Hope they come true.
I think we should all take a moment to reflect on the fact that this absolutely ridiculous post was more RIGHT then WRONG… Most impressively… The flower thing was DEAD ON. Hahahaha.
Correct:
– 9 Models for each phone
– 2 different sizes
– 128 GB model
– Revival of “One More Thing”
– iWatch
Half Right:
– Dropping 16GB Model – They dropped 32GB instead…
Incorrect:
– Sapphire Displays
– $99 Base Model
– Waterproofing
I don’t believe so much in the 5.5-inch iPhone rumor, although the iWatch and the 4.7-inch iPhone are certainly going to be released this year as Apple doesn’t want to lose market for Samsung and other companies.Furthermore, Apple would never launch two iPhone sizes/models separately in one year only, as the rumors suggest that the larger 5.5 inch model is coming later this year.
Besides the enterprise doesn’t want the two models to compete along the same category, Apple wouldn’t dare to shoot in the dark to mess with the customer mind, if so.. it would decrease its iPhone sales, at least in percentage analysis.
Anyways, the September keynote is getting closer and I just can’t wait to see the new iPhone.
Hope they’ll announce a 12″ iPad Air……that’s what I’m looking for… long over due…
I want a 19″ iPad Air, that way I can strap it to my chest and one on my back and FaceTime each other so no one will see most of my torso.
You mention 12″, but the rumors all point to 12.9″ which is basically 13″, but frankly a 11.9″ would be far smarter than a 12.9″, but then again everything down to 9.7″ is smarter than anything above it. Let’s face it, 12.9″ iPad would weigh a ridiculous amount, and no matter what, be extremely cumbersome, and look obscenely ridiculous. Then again phablets look ridiculous when people talk on them, and yet people still do that. Anyway, I challenge you to take the bezel dimensions of the current iPad Air and then draw a 12.9″ diagonal and use the current bezels on that to see what it would look like, then cut that out, put it on cardboard the same size, hold it, and tell me it isn’t ridiculously big.
That is a bunch of unsubstantiated nonsense. You make awful assumptions, that are based on anything. You totally ignore the fact that Apple wouldn’t bother making a 12.9″ iPad if indeed it were too heavy or awkward to be usable. You just assume it would have to be, which is ludicrous. Go pick up and hold an iPad 3, then an iPad Air, and tell me Apple couldn’t make a 12.9.
Frankly, your comment is the type I would expect from people if the iPad mini were the only iPad to ever exist, and we were hearing rumblings of a 9.7″ iPad. The same uninformed and unimaginative crowd would be out in droves shooting down the idea for being too heavy and too awkward to be usable.
Just do us all a favor, and stop.
PMZ do some math, what’s the screen size difference from the mini to the air? What would the screen size difference from the air to the 12.9″ be again? Take that math, and find the % larger as compared to the mini to air. Then take the weight difference from mini to the air, and try to extrapolate what the difference from the air to the 12.9″ would be (keeping in mind it is a significantly bigger difference than mini to air). Then think about that weight (which would be a complete guesstimate, and it could easily be much heavier in reality). Like I said though, aside from the weight, 12.9″ is simply EXTREMELY cumbersome, no matter how you look at it. You are comparing mini to air, like that has anything to do with a 12.9″… Um no. Mini and air aren’t cumbersome… A 12.9″ would be cumbersome no matter what. Whether they indeed make that or not, 12.9″ is cumbersome, it doesn’t matter what reality you are living in, it’s cumbersome. I can’t imagine holding that with a straight face.
I am actually looking for a smaller tablet, say in the 6″-7″ range so it can actually be portable, but I agree with you in the sense that I think Apple really needs to offer more, and different sizes of the iPad.
If we are going to get there sizes of phone this year, why not three iPads as well?
What IQ level do you need to know an iPhone event will take place in September?
Apple is becoming as predictable as it gets.
Your comments are all predictable in that they are unnecessarily bitter and angry. Does your mother not love you? Did someone poop in your Cheerios this morning? Either way, step away from the computer and reflect on the attitude and life choices that led you to be like this.
Seriously now, since forever, Apple released iPhones in September. Why is it news? It’s predictable. Just like the new Apple.
Ahhh… The old days. Remember the first time we say iPad? Remember how it felt? Remember how we first reacted when we realized it didn’t run OSX and instead it ran iPhone OS?
Now, this is my friend is called Unpredictable.
So bored and sick of rumors . I live w my horribly functioning broken iphone 4 -.- I am not well satisfied with iphone 4s, 5 and 5s. Especially 5, worst iphone ever. I am thinking if iphone 6 is not good enough, I will wait for 6s cuz we are used to apple disappoints and downs our expectation.
Would love a 128 GB iPhone!
Do you actually need one?
We all like to see higher specs in new products, but do we actually need them…? Better specs, though, is another thing.
Trust me. Many of us professionals do need them.
Numerologically, 9/9/2014 is not a particularly good day for releasing / announcing a new product (it’s good for esoteric wisdom and such stuff).
5/9 and 10/9 ARE good days for releasing a product, particularly the 10th. Apple seems to be lacking a numerologist… :-o
Anyway, I expect to be impressed and amazed that day, no matter its numerological significance :)
Just a small request for the new iphone, along with all the new features and tech glory can we have a wifi radio that gets reception equal to the average android ? I don’t know why it is consistently so disappointing in past models but they need to address it. My friends lg nexus 4 for examples picks up wifi approximately 50+ feet further away than my iphone 5.
But where’s the invitation and event artwork?
Tim Cook will take the stage and say:
“Forget I ever mentioned one handed use!!” The crowd will go crazy
This is why we have to think really well before saying anything.
A lot of reports say they redesigned the button layout to facilitate 1 handed use.
Anyway, doesn’t matter what Apple says – many people prefer a larger screen.
The reason I bought an android phone several years ago, was because I do prefer browsing the internet on the larger screen.
Otherwise I would own an iPhone, I’m a big iOS fan, and I own a iPad Mini Retina….in addition to an iPod Touch – which I use for testing when developing apps, but I’ve always found that devices screen to be small, from the first day to today.
I can’t wait!
For the iPhone 7!
iPhone 7, iPhone 7, iPhone 7!!!!! NOW!!!!!
Sorry, I like to get ahead on these things.
