Skype today announced the release of Skype 5.6 for iPhone to finally bring an optimized experience for the new larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus displays. Skype has taken advantage of the increased screen real estate by displaying more chats and messages when viewing conversations on the new iPhones:
Today we’re releasing Skype 5.6 for iPhone, which brings optimized, scaled UI to the larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ screen sizes. On an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+, Skype 5.6 displays more of your recent chats and shows more messages in conversation view, helping you to communicate with your friends and family quickly and simply.
Skype last month released an update for iOS 8 that included new interactive notifications for calls and messages but didn’t introduce support for the larger screen sizes.
The Skype 5.6 update for iPhone is available on the App Store now and also includes a number of other tweaks. The app now lets users mark individual conversations as read/unread, displays presence indicators in the recent contacts list, and includes more info for contacts and time zones on contract profiles. The app will also now mute all notification sounds when using Do not disturb.

I don’t see the update as of 10:18am EST.
…still no update as of 10:47am EST
Sweet!
There are many bothersome changes in Skype over the past 2 or 3 versions. For example it will let you search Skype directory but still won’t let you access your phone contacts – have to add manually. I have let my subscription lapse as I do not find it as useful or easy as it was.
