Parrot today introduced its new infotainment system, currently known only by its model number, “RNB6,” that features a 7-inch 720p display. The system runs on a custom build of Android, but has full support for the iPhone’s CarPlay feature, allowing control of your cell phone’s key functions through your dashboard.
Even without a phone connected, the system offers onboard navigation (integrated with the dashcam), phone call capability (presumably over Bluetooth unless connected via CarPlay or Android Auto), vehicle diagnostics, music and climate control, and more.
The usual Parrot audio features are also included, such as the ability to customize the system’s audio playback to provide optimal sound for the number of passengers and their locations in the car.
Unfortunately, shoppers looking to get their hands on one will have to wait a little longer for details such as availability and pricing. That information will be made available later this year.
Parrot also announced several other products, including new drones, the sensor-laden Zik Sport fitness headband, and the Parrot Pot smart flowerpot. You can read more about all of the products here.

I can’t wait to get the firmware and build my own CarPlay.
I mean, that’s why they use Android, right? To give us the app?
Just download one of the Pioneer firmware, for example: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/AVIC-5000NEX
Then you can extract the apks and also the compiled binaries which has the carplay feature. (They do not use carplay anywhere in the packages, you can find them with the following keywords: DIO, airplay, airserver)
Android on this POS makes it a complete non-starter for me, and likely many others. Last thing I want is that crap powering anything in my car! Make it run on QNX and we’ll talk.
i totally agree. although this unit has some interesting features. i see the system crashing with everything that is going on. there are also a lot of distracting going on in the UI.
