Apple has just announced the pricing and availability for the new 12-inch Retina MacBook. This is the thinnest MacBook to date and offers “all day” battery life. This is the same MacBook we exclusively uncovered back in January and now it has been unveiled along with its pricing…
Apple’s new 12-inch Retina MacBook will start shipping on April 10 starting at $1,299 for the base model. This model includes 256GB of internal storage with a 1.1GHz low-power Intel Core M processor (turbo-charge up to 2.9GHz). The second model will come in at $1,599 with 512GB of storage and a 1.2GHz processor.
Depending on use, this MacBook’s battery life is said to range between 9 and 10 hours. It also has a resolution of 2304×1440 and a single USB-C port that will support everything via adapters including power, USB data, DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA. Reblogged this on The EndPoint Business Blog.
Glad they went with the MacBook name. I just don’t see the point to keep selling the 11″ and 13″ inch Airs.
i wondering what if you want to plug it to a screen and to charge it in the same time!?
someone have an answer/?
YES!! i was wondering this to, and you can!! http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1L2AM/A/usb-c-vga-multiport-adapter
Yes, a split adapter.
you mean cash pump…
That is flat out awesome. A little bummed about Touch ID though.
Yeah I didn’t think about that. Although what I’ve been waiting for ever since touch id came out is an app that pings your phone to touch for log in. I think there are apps but are unreliable. This should be built into the operating system. Also you could do the same thing for apple pay. Make it for online shopping.
what a joke over a grand for an intel m
Ahem — what about the 15″ MBP? No love?
No standard USB sucks!!
They intend to remove wire clutter but end up adding more wire and adaptors…
USB-C will be the new standard. And wireless is the future.
I am in the market for a new laptop. I’m comparing this and the revised entry 13″ MBP w/ Retina. 1 port to rule them all or options with the MBP.
They should have just put a retina on the the Macbook Airs. That would have given display and power.
Guys, not one site or article is clueing up in on what USB C is and how it works with this mac.
We see the end of a cable to goes into the Mac, but we don’t see the other end.
Does it go to the power adapter?
Does it go no place and you need some kind of adapter to go to the power supply, USB hard drives, Video out and so forth.
I also guess you can’t do thunderbolt with this machine.
We would just like to know how this machine utilizes USB C?????
Someone please help
They have an adapter on their site for $79 that allows USB-C pass through, HDMI, and USB 3.0: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter?fnode=37808a49a1187dc204f14df3fc5552f5fffa56121f18468dda04b79496fe5f8161bf966bd1e92b25ca705b2cf2854a0dac8d75a15990c86b26ed2a1c3a767c2cf4368020139f9437ccd95a9ca2c0eee9667b2cef30263db5b9933ddfab96f92cf0373daca9efe2f5a363c358a662c0d4&fs=f%3D12inchmacbook%26fh%3D4098%252B44c7
Have a look at http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/9/8177087/macbook-port-adapter-accessory
I think you are over thinking it. The power at least. The power adaptor that comes with the computer will just plug in. They won’t give you the old power and make you use an adaptor.
As far as everything else goes there will be converters. Like the firewire to thunderbolt stuff.
The point is that you don’t need a ton of ports on your computer. Its just one that anything can be converted into.
The downside is if you want to charge and have a monitor. But since this is USB C and not some apple only port… chances are there will be a lot more products out there soon to convert and possibly split.
Really nice. Good for those that need more than an iPad but don’t want a MacPro. Very innovative way to utilize space for batteries. Good specs, except processor speeds, but with no fan Apple probably couldn’t make it unbearable with heat output.
Waiting to see the benchmarks from the Core M and 5300…
Pretty low… Afaik, Broadwell-Y was made mostly for tablets…
so you’re expecting low performance? I don’t know if I should buy this and am not sure if its going to live up to atlas a macbook airs potential
at least
Any word on when preorders start?
480p Face time camera…. UGH
I’m a little disappointed on the lack of a USB type-A port on it. It means we’re gonna have to buy a $80 separate dongle just to be able to plug a standard USB drive in there. Nice, Tim, very nice. Not to mention the hassle of carrying an extra thingy in our pockets, because we now have an oh-so-thin laptop…
Also, no mention on how it’s gonna talk to a Thunderbolt display (and charge while at it). I search the Apple site and there’s no mention (but I’m sure a nice $80 dongle is along the way… :/
