Apple announces that its first Apple Store in Queens, New York opens this Saturday

Apple has announced on its website that its first retail store in Queens will open on Saturday 11th July at 1oam. We exclusively revealed that the store was on the way back in February, with the first construction shots seen later the same month and signage appearing in May.

The new store is located on the second floor of the Queens Center mall in Elmhurst and will be one of the largest of the eight Apple Stores in New York …

Apple Retail marketing director Jason Barlia told the NY Daily News that the location made a lot of sense, and that although the store won’t share the unique architecture for which many Apple Stores are known, it will be unique in the way it reflects the ethnic diversity of the neighbourhood.

Barlia said the new Apple Retail Store will be one of the most diverse with over 130 staff members who will be speaking 24 languages apart from English. Two-thirds of staffers will also be fully bilingual.

Most of Apple’s existing NY stores are in Manhattan, the exception being one on Staten Island. A Brooklyn store was initially expected to open in April, but unspecified delays mean that it is now not expected to open until late this year or even into 2016.

Apple retail head Angela Ahrendts opened the stunning Upper East Side store last month.
