Earlier this week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell upheld his original ruling that Patriots star Tom Brady will serve a four game suspension next season over the well-known “DeflateGate” controversy. Goodell cited Brady replacing his smartphone amid the investigation in his decision to uphold the suspension.
Responding to the NFL’s ruling in a Facebook post today, Brady stated that he simply switched phones because he wanted to upgrade from a Samsung device to an iPhone 6:
“I also disagree with yesterdays narrative surrounding my cellphone. I replaced my broken Samsung phone with a new iPhone 6 AFTER my attorneys made it clear to the NFL that my actual phone device would not be subjected to investigation under ANY circumstances.”
While Brady is facing criticism for his claimed involvement in the DeflateGate situation and the NFL is facing criticism for poorly handling the investigation, according to many sports fans, Apple has involuntarily entered the saga and is now receiving priceless marketing from one of the year’s biggest sports news stories. Earlier this year, Spurs power forward Matt Bonner also gave Apple some free press by claiming his poor performance this past season was due to him switching to the larger-screened iPhone 6 Plus.

Is this a serious article? I thought this was a poorly written joke
Sadly it is real. It shows the absurdity of this entire issue.
Everyone is buying an iPhone, if it’s not today, it will happen eventually. It’s just a matter of time.
If he had an iPhone at the time he could used iMessage to quickly delete all his messages.
What celebrity today would hand their phones over to someone?
He could jokingly called one of his friends a harsh name and loose his job and all his sponsors.
Glad to find deflated balls finally made it here((
Remember when next existed? I don’t either.
Cheaters should stay with cheaters. Keep using Samsung phones, Brady.
Ouch Y – that hurt.
Tom Brady is the new authority on choosing smartphones because he is qualified how?
What a weenie! Time to man up and quit acting like a child.
NFL wants to retrieve the texts from a destroyed phone? No problem – Just drop a Freedom of Information notice to the NSA; They have all that information. Problem solved – and Brady might seen as the cheater he is.
Think outside the box, NFL!
It’s easier than that. Google sells Android user data all kinds of internal partners. Sign up with Google and the story is moot.
People like to see inflate everything while Brady just deflate but importantly like great football moves you make during games, the best move you made is to switch from android to iphone. More power to you..
I love the controversy over him destroying his old phone. You should have seen the wreckage of my 4-year-old Nokia slider when I finally got my iPhone 5.
Go Pats.
Yeah, Tom Brady, just coincidence that your phone was “broke” on the very day your lawyer was told that they NFL wanted his phone for examination. Pure coincidence, right?
Or you could expand your knowledge of the situation beyond 140 characters from the national media. He replaced a broken phone (the Samsung) after his lawyers informed him it would not be turned over, after the NFL knew it would not be made available, and after he already provided the NFL with over 10,000 texts from the time in question. The NFL continues to allow half-truths and misinformation to stay out there because it serves their purpose. It doesn’t matter if it is factual or not.
Google Spoliation , Brady, like affirmed by USA Today committed a crime
