Apple Online Store becomes integrated into product pages in website overhaul

Apple has just debuted a revamped version of its website with a focus on all-new product pages. As part of the redesign, the Apple Online Store has been removed from the site’s main navigation bar, with the option to buy each product now available exclusively on the product’s page.

The home page remains mostly unchanged, still featuring a scrolling marquee of product promos and four images at the bottom to highlight iOS 9 and some marketing campaigns, but the rest of the site is completely new.

The Mac, iPad, and iPhone pages feature very little text, instead displaying large images of the entire product family. Each item name is accompanied by a tagline link to “learn more” or “buy,” but no other descriptions. The pages for individual products remain mostly the same as before. The Watch page still shows off a range of Apple Watch features.

The biggest change to this new design is the decision to remove the Store link from the main navigation bar at the top of the screen. The bar had become crowded in recent months with the addition of the Watch, but it’s an interesting decision to remove that store rather than one of the other products.

Instead, the ability to shop for Apple gear has been integrated into each product page. As before, a “buy now” button appears on the page for each model. A shopping bag button has been added beside the search button to allow customers to quickly manage their bag, favorite items, Apple Store account, and more.

The item selection process has also been slightly redesigned, with larger buttons for choices like iPhone capacity and carrier. The page for selecting a Mac model has also seen a visual refresh, though the information on the page is essentially the same.

  1. They didn’t so much remove the store link as they simply made the whole site the store. It’s not necessarily typical of corporate pages, but there are many that have always been primarily stores with very little in the way of product information. Apple has struck a great balance with their design.

Instead of a “store” link you now have a “bag” link which is the equivalent of your account/login, shopping cart and more.

They added a bag icon instead of the store , so they don’t gain any space across the top tabs.

iPods and Apple TV are further hidden being listed under the. Used tab and found at the bottom of the page. Not sure where the TV will be feature when it gets updated next month. I prefer the dedicated store I like the product layout pages, but like I said Apple TV and iPods are hidden.

Well they managed to screw this up too! What’s up with the GIANT product icons?

Usually done to emphasise something GIANT¡

When you emphasise everything, you don’t emphasise anything. Hence you can’t use the word emphasise.

Awesome, I love the website and store fused together; it was pointless to use a website to see info on the products and another one to buy them. much better now ;)

Looks great, and the search works well. I tested it me typed “case”, thinking it would give me a random barrage of cases, it it asked “Do you want a case for your Mac, iPhone, or iPad?” ad gave suggestions underneath. Very well done
