Live Photos is one of the stand-out new features on the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. It captures a short video while you’re taking pictures, which you can then watch back, and interact with using 3D Touch on your Lock Screen. Today, a company named Priime launched a new app which makes them easily shareable and viewable with anyone, regardless of device or platform.
Live GIF is the first app of its kind and lets any iPhone 6s or 6s Plus user turn their Live Photos in to GIFs which can then be shared by MMS, email, or shared on social media. The best part is, it doesn’t really require much setting up. Launch the app and it automatically detects any Live Photos on your phone, displays them in a grid (as shown below). Once you’ve picked one to share, you can choose either to ‘share as GIF’ or ‘share as video’, then select which service you want to share them on, and you’re done.
As you’d expect, Live GIF also supports 3D Touch. On the home screen, this lets you quickly open the last Live Photo and turn it in to a GIF immediately.
Live GIF is available to download from the App Store from today, and costs just $1.99. The app is compatible with any device running iOS 9.0 or later including iPhone 5s, 6, 6 Plus and the new 6s and 6s Plus as well as several iPad models.

Exactly what was to be expected; turn the video into a .gif. I’d rather see the Internet adopt Live Photo ‘natively’ instead of this obvious course. Plus I think the asking price of $1.99 is way too high. It’s just making use of existing tech, nothing fancy, not innovative. I don’t think it’ll fly, but I’ve been wrong on so many things in life it’ll likely sell.
Just because something isn’t innovative, doesn’t mean it worthless. And $1.99 is “way too high?” It’s a convenience fee. And is it really that bad to pay less than the price of a single PSL for the ability to have more ways to post the photos you take?
I wish more people would remember how much simple apps like this used to cost. This race to the bottom is absurd.
Don’t forget: Apple said during the keynote that Live Photos will be supported natively by Facebook later this year.
No .GIF sharing on Twitter or Facebook. Don’t they both support animated .GIFs now? Huge miss.
Hi I’m the developer of Live GIF. Facebook currently doesn’t support uploading gifs through their share extension. To share a gif you have to share a URL. Twitter has a 5MB size limit for gif now and we have an update queued up to make the size smaller so you can share on Twitter.
Andrew, is there any way to do the same thing with burst mode photos? I always thought those were perfect for some motion gif love.
@AJ: there are quite a few apps that turns burst mode photos into gifs already.
how do you share GIF to Facebook with your Iphone 6s Plus?
