Google is on a roll lately with readying its iOS apps for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro announced last September and released last November.
Google’s YouTube app gained native resolution two weeks ago, but lacked iOS 9 multitasking features like Split View and Picture-in-Picture, then yesterday we saw Google Photos update with iPad Pro support in an update that actually includes Split View and Slide Over features.
Now it’s the Google Docs apps turn, at least to start, as the latest version of Google Docs for iOS adds native resolution support for the iPad Pro.
If you’ve been following Google’s app progress, though, you won’t be surprised to learn that Split View and Slide Over still aren’t support. Progress, but there’s still work to be done.
On the bright side, Google Docs for iOS does include a big new feature that you’d expect all word processors would have: word count.
Check the full release notes below:
What’s New in Version 1.2016.08207
* Word count
* iPad Pro support
* Bug fixes and performance improvements
Google Docs is available for free on the App Store. Google Sheets has similarly been updated for iPad Pro; Google Slides is likely to follow.
For now, when you try to do iOS 9 multitasking on compatible iPads with Google Docs apps, this is what you’ll get:
Sharper resolution on larger tablets, but still single-app mode like it’s 2015.
[Update: Another Google app, Keep, has been updated today with Split View.]

Who want to bet Google is also not supporting app slicing either just to mess with 16GB iPhone/iPad users too?
wants…
^ This guy is a grammar nazi cric.. jk 😛
No, I just wish I had the ability to edit my own comment when I noticed the typo.
Why would anyone want this? Office is superior, and so is even Apple’s Apps.
i’d want it for multiple reasons. 1) Apple’s suite is better (on desktop) not that good on web. 2) it has arguably the best multi-user file editing and in app chat.
that’s why people use google doc suite more than apple’s version.
