Apple today started inviting its retail employees to participate in testing macOS 10.12, the latest version of Apple’s Mac operating system unveiled earlier this week during a press event at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference. An excerpt from Apple’s memo to employees below:
“We know you enjoy getting your hands on Apple’s latest technology. With that in mind, all team members are invited to participate in a pre-release in the macOS 10.12 seed program.”
Apple notes that employees aren’t required to participate in the test and that the process is voluntary and “not an expectation of your job”. Testing for the retail seed program is done on an employee’s personal computer.
The company officially unveiled macOS Sierra earlier this week, which in addition to making the name change from OS X to macOS, introduced Siri as a flagship feature of the release. Apple also showed off Sierra’s ability to auto-unlock using an Apple Watch for authentication, a new universal clipboard accessible across devices including iOS, Apple Pay for the web, and a new automatic storage optimization feature.
Apple began a developer beta for macOS Sierra this week following its unveiling, and it plans to kick off a public beta in July ahead of a full public release this fall.
Apple is starting the seed program for macOS 10.12 today but notes that iOS 10 is not currently available for testing through the program.
