With everyone (ourselves included) using the term ‘iPhone 7’ to refer to this year’s iPhone, it can be easy to forget that the name isn’t a given. With the new iPhone expected to be only a minor iteration on the iPhone 6/6s design-wise – effectively a second ‘S’ year – there have been suggestions that Apple might use some other naming scheme to reflect the fact.
There have also been rumors that the larger iPhone might be named the iPhone 7 Pro instead of Plus, or that there will be both Plus and Pro models.
But often-reliable Japanese site Macotakara says that this isn’t the case, and that Apple will indeed use the name iPhone 7, with the larger model called the iPhone 7 Plus. It also reiterates reports of a touch-sensitive Home button replacing a mechanical one, citing a ‘reliable information source.’
