PSA: Samsung’s new Gear S3 smartwatches work with iPhones, feature circular faces + cellular connectivity

Earlier today Samsung revealed its latest generation of Tizen-based smartwatches, the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier, and 9to5Google was on hand to test the device. While these two new devices don’t look much different compared to last year’s Gear S2 lineup, they do make some major improvements.

Obviously, the first thought with a Samsung wearable is that it is designed to go with their Andoid-based smartphones even though this one has LTE, GPS and a reported 4-day battery life.

But this time, they work with iOS…

SamMobile confirmed at IFA 2016 that both the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier will work with iPhones. It’s unclear if this will be available when the wearables launch in October, especially considering the long-awaited Gear S2 iOS compatibility has yet to fully debut.

Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier both run on top of Samsung’s Tizen wearable operating system and bring 1.3-inch, circular AMOLED displays. Both wearables also include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and MST (for Samsung Pay, only on Android), and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The Gear S3 Frontier also brings LTE to the table.

If you’ve been on the hunt for an alternative to the Apple Watch, these releases from Samsung may prove to be great options when they debut later this year. Pricing or firm release dates have yet to be announced.
