Upthere is a relatively new cloud service created in part by ex-OS X chief Bertrand Serlet, and the company has a special promotion kicking off today. The company is partnering with ScanMyPhotos.com to give away 1000 free 4×6 photo scans for Upthere customers.
It’s a decent trade: try Upthere’s cloud service and you can avoid the repetitive task that is manually scanning and saving physical photographs on your own. The promotion starts today and runs through the end of the year. The deal even covers delivery.
Upthere is different from iCloud and Dropbox; it treats the cloud as the main storage container and has its own technology to make sync and delivery near instant. The company announced its initial pricing details earlier this summer; you can find the latest here.
Upthere has a slick Mac app plus multiple iOS apps that handle file and media sync in a unique way. As ever, there’s a little bit of fine print involved here (you have to pay for initial shipping but return is free) and the full announcement below:
Upthere’s Gift To The World: Don’t Scan Your Stuff, We’ll Do It For You
At Upthere, we work tirelessly to find better ways to keep the things that mean the most to you safe, accessible, and shareable.
When we first began building our service, I took some of my old photos, scanned them, and put them in Upthere. It was a revelation. I now frequently revisit the old photos of my father as a child with his family and some truly embarrassing photos of my awkward adolescence.
That is what’s great about what we can do with Upthere. It is a place where our most important things, like the photos trapped in our shoeboxes, can take on a renewed life.
We want that for everyone.
So, until the end of the year, we’ll pay to have 1,000 of your 4” x 6″ pictures scanned. We’ve partnered with industry leader ScanMyPhotos.com to do this. Everything you need to know is here . Return shipping is on us.
Free of charge.
No apps, no scanning things one by one, no worrying about where they’ll end up.
Why would we do this? Well, we know that it’s hard and time consuming. Combine this all with the fact that the holidays are fast approaching and this is something that falls off of that task list pretty quick. There had to be a better way than asking you to do it yourself, so we came up with one.
Happy Holidays from Upthere. Grab a box of your most cherished memories, send them our way, and we’ll take care of the rest.
