Update: The LG UltraFine 5K Display is no longer available to purchase. We’ll keep an eye on availability and update when the situation changes.
After announcing that it was discontinuing its first-party display over the summer, Apple revealed at its Mac-centric event last month that it had partnered with LG for a pair of standalone displays. Now, Apple has made the LG UltraFine 5K Display available for purchase via its website.

If you head to Apple’s Online Store, you’ll be able to purchase the 27-inch LG UltraFine 5K Display for $974. That price may sound a bit out of left field, and that’s because the LG display was one of the USB-C products that Apple discounted earlier this month following the release of the new MacBook Pros that feature exclusively USB-C ports. Prior to being available to order, Apple and LG’s UltraFine 5K Display was listed as unavailable.
The LG UltraFine 5K Display is made specifically for Apple’s new MacBook Pros and features a 5120 x 2880 resolution with a P3 wide color gamut. Included with the purchase is a Thunderbolt 3 cable, which can both transmit data and power/charge the new MacBook Pros. You’ll also find three USB- C ports for additional connectivity, as well.
At this point, the UltraFine 5K Display is available online only with no in-store availability. Currently, Apple says that orders will ship in 6-8 weeks, for a delivery window of January 12th through January 26th.
It’s worth noting, however, that the discount will disappear come January. Without the discount, the display will go for $1,299, so despite the long shipping times, it’s likely better to get your order in now as opposed to waiting for in-store availability or for shipping times to go down.
If you’re looking to spend a little less, Apple and LG also worked together on a 21.5-inch 4K UltraFine display that’s available for $524 and shipping in 5-6 weeks. Once the USB-C discount goes away, this display will go for $699.
Last week, one of the first hands-on unboxing videos of the new LG UltraFine 5K Display hit the web and as more reviewers and customers get their hands on the display we should expect impressions to continue to roll in.
