Snapchat has confirmed that, from later today, you’ll be able to share your Stories to Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere. The feature will, for the first time, allow you to share your Snapchat stories with people who don’t use the app thanks to a new Story player on the web …
The feature was first reported to be on the way toward the end of last year.
When you choose to share elsewhere, Snapchat provides a link to your Story on the web. Snapchat tells us that it made the change to make it easier to share with family and friends, though slowing growth and monetization struggles are likely front of mind for the company. Stories shared on the web have a prominent ‘Download Snapchat’ link, turning it into a promotional opportunity.
From preview imagery shown to us, it looks like those viewing your Story on the web can also onward share it.
To share a Story, you’ll press and hold on tiles in Discover. You’ll see a Share option there, where Share Story will give you a range of options, including Facebook, Twitter, text and email.
As with the app, Official Stories will only be viewable for 24 hours, while other stories will be available for 30 days.
The update will be gradually rolling out from today as part of a major new redesign.
The company tells us that more than 3.5 billion Snaps are created every day, a number the company will be aiming to increase with this additional publicity.
