iPhone 17 Slim again said to feature just one camera, A19 chip, more

As rumored in the past, Apple is planning a big change to the iPhone lineup next year with an all-new iPhone 17 Slim model. A new report today from reliable analyst Jeff Pu outlines much of what to expect from this new iPhone model.

iPhone 17 Slim

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted a number of iPhone 17 Slim specs back in July, emphasizing Apple’s focus on form over function. For instance, the iPhone 17 Slim is expected to have just one rear-facing camera and a 6.6-inch display.

In this week’s investor note seen by 9to5Mac, Jeff Pu corroborates many of these details. According to the analyst, here are the specs of the iPhone 17 Slim:

  • Chip: A19
  • Display: 6.6-inches
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Front-camera: 24MP
  • Rear camera: Single 48MP camera
  • Biometrics: Face ID
  • Casing: Aluminum

Pu adds that he expects the iPhone 17 Slim to have an all-new design and form factor, and to serve as a “replacement” for the Plus model. It’s unclear if he is referring to a “replacement” in terms of pricing, screen size, or some other factor. The Information reported in May that the iPhone 17 Slim “could be priced higher than the iPhone Pro Max.”

More iPhone 17 details

In terms of performance and specs for the whole lineup, Pu reports:

  • iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim: 8GB RAM, A19 chip
  • iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max: 12GB RAM, A19 Pro chip

Additionally, Pu reports that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will also feature a “narrowed Dynamic Island,” while the other models will retain the current design. The smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be made possible by a new “metalens” technology for the proximity sensor. The “metalens” technology may help Apple dramatically reduce the size of the Face ID sensor.

All four iPhone 17 models are again said to feature 24MP front-facing camera, a notable upgrade from the current 12MP cameras. This has also been reported by Ming-Chi Kuo.

The specs reported by Pu this time around are largely him doubling down on previous reporting. This suggests that Apple’s plans for the iPhone 17 lineup have not changed, at least as of right now. The iPhone 17 lineup, however, won’t actually be announced until September 2025, so there is still plenty of time for things to change based on production and supply chain issues and other factors.

Based on what we know right now, would you be interested in the so-called iPhone 17 Slim if it features a dramatically new design? Let us know in the comments.
