Final Fantasy XIV is coming to iPhone in new mobile app

iPhone games continue to get more powerful and higher profile than ever. Today, Square Enix announced that its famed Final Fantasy XIV is coming to mobile soon via a new adaptation.

New game is an adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix shared that Lightspeed Studios is completing the mobile adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV. The game won’t be identical to the original, but the aim is to create a worthy mobile version.

From the announcement post:

LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS has gone to great lengths to ensure FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE faithfully recreates the original game’s award-winning gameplay and story experience. FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE retains lifestyle content such as fishing, Triple Triad, and chocobo racing. Additionally, players can immerse themselves in the meticulously crafted visual experience that defines Eorzea on mobile. Visual elements — from the intricate weather and time-of-day systems which offer over 600 different weather patterns across various landscapes — to player character and equipment designs have been painstakingly crafted and optimized to bring the detail of the original game to life.

Final Fantasy XIV will be launching soon in China for pre-release play tests, but very shortly afterward it will receive a full global launch.

Currently, details are unknown regarding which specific devices will support the game. It’s possible you’ll need a relatively modern iPhone model, but that information has not yet been shared.

Apple recently announced that two new Final Fantasy titles are coming to iPhone soon via Apple Arcade, but neither game is nearly as high profile as Final Fantasy XIV.
