Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are getting easier to buy into, as Coinbase is rolling out a new integration today for purchasing crypto via Apple Pay across third-party apps. Here are the details.
Coinbase Onramp adds Apple Pay support for all compatible purchases
Coinbase Onramp is a developer platform for handling crypto transactions, so with today’s rollout, all apps using Onramp will have Apple Pay support automatically added.
Like it’s done for years with online purchases of all sorts, Apple Pay speeds up the transaction significantly for new buyers.
Coinbase shared the video below to show off the process:
The new feature comes years after Tim Cook mentioned that Apple was ‘looking at’ accepting crypto through Apple Pay (he also mentioned owning crypto as part of his own portfolio).
Since then, though, not much has happened from Apple’s own crypto efforts. Presumably, the company had some involvement in the Coinbase Onramp rollout. However, it’s also possible Coinbase was able to build the integration without any assistance from Apple.
