Apple’s vice president of Hardware Technologies Johny Srouji became known for his work leading the development of Apple Silicon chips, which have become a fundamental part of the company’s products. While there are no signs that Srouji wants to leave Apple any time soon, it seems that Intel is keeping a close eye on him for a potential new CEO.
Intel considers Apple’s Johny Srouji to be its next CEO
As reported by Bloomberg on Sunday, Intel is now looking for a new CEO as Pat Gelsinger retired from the company earlier this month. Interestingly, it seems that Johny Srouji is on Intel’s short list to take over as CEO. The report says that Intel already approached Srouji five years ago, when former CEO Brian Krzanich was leaving the company.
However, sources say that Srouji “didn’t seriously consider the job” at the time, as he was focused on developing the first Apple Silicon chips for the Mac and everything was fine at Apple.
It’s unclear whether Srouji would accept a new offer from Intel, but this seems unlikely given that his work at Apple has become increasingly notable, especially after the introduction of Apple Silicon Macs – which led Apple to ditch the partnership with Intel altogether. Besides, Apple has some ambitious hardware coming soon, such as the rumored “HomePad” and the company’s 5G modem.
Srouji joined Apple in 2008 to oversee the development of the A4, Apple’s first custom chip that powered the first-generation iPad and iPhone 4. He was promoted to VP of Hardware Technology in 2015 and works closely with John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.
Of course, if Srouji hypothetically decides to join Intel, he would have the opportunity to completely restructure the company since “Intel is in such bad shape” as the company missed the chance to enter the mobile segment and is now falling behind when it comes to AI as well.
