Speculation that Apple’s March event could include immersive F1 on Vision Pro

Apple commenter John Gruber is spitballing again. After suggesting that the special event on March 4 may be preceded by a series of new product announcements through press releases, he now has another idea.

Based on a reader drawing his attention to the timing, he suggests that another announcement could be immersive F1 viewing on Vision Pro …

Immersive viewing on Vision Pro

Apple Immersive Video first launched back in 2024 with a scripted short film. The company said at the time that it would be releasing future immersive content for a range of music videos, concerts and sports events, including the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Apple last year announced that it would be offering immersive feeds for Vision Pro users for selected Los Angeles Lakers games, with the feature subsequently launching last month.

Immersive F1 speculation

Gruber now wonders whether immersive video for Formula One might also be announced at the upcoming Apple event.

A reader pointed out that the 2026 Formula 1 season starts in Australia on March 8. You will recall from October that Apple TV is now the exclusive broadcast partner for F1 in the U.S. Apple is already dabbling with live immersive sports broadcasting for VisionOS with a limited slate of Lakers games this season. If they have something planned for streaming F1 races live on Vision Pro, with some level of immersion, March 4 would be a pretty good date to demo that experience to the media.

He makes it clear that this is just speculation, and the timing may simply be a coincidence.

We would certainly underline this point, but it does seem a near certainty that Vision Pro immersive video will come to F1 at some stage. The question is not if but when.
