Apple had a big September, but it’s set to keep momentum going in October with several rumored product unveilings soon that we’ve waited a long time for.
#1: MacBook Pro / Ultra redesign with touchscreen
The Mac is a long-time touchscreen holdout, but that’s finally set to change with a new MacBook Pro (or MacBook Ultra) product expected to launch in October.
Apple’s next-gen MacBook Pro will introduce a brand new industrial design—the first such overhaul in five years. And in addition to touch support, it will boast an OLED display, Dynamic Island, and possibly a C2 cellular modem option.
It’s been a long time since the MacBook Pro got a new look. But far longer since touchscreens became the norm, and Apple decided to forego them on the Mac. I’m excited to see how touch might enhance the experience of the Mac moving forward.
#2: New Apple TV 4K
There’s never been a longer wait for new Apple TV hardware than the current drought of updates. Apple’s latest model, the third-gen Apple TV 4K, was introduced in 2022.
Rumors indicate we’ll finally get a new Apple TV 4K in October, headlined by a powerful A19 or A19 Pro chip and Siri AI support.
This summer Apple raised prices on most of its products, including the Apple TV. That means the four-year-old Apple TV 4K now costs $199—far more than the $129 price it launched at. Here’s hoping the new Apple TV doesn’t go any higher.
#3: ‘HomePad’
Rumors of a HomePod with a display have been around for nearly as long as the HomePod’s existence. But they ramped up in 2024 when Mark Gurman offered an in-depth report on what’s commonly called the ‘HomePad.’
HomePad is a smart display with built-in speaker that will reportedly spearhead Apple’s renewed push into home products. It will have a new OS that resembles parts of iOS, tvOS, and watchOS, including a StandBy-like mode.
Siri AI is expected to be central to the product, which will also feature a camera, customizable widgets, and built-in Apple apps like Photos, Notes, Music, Calendar, and more.
