256GB drive upgrade hits MacBook Air

A Taiwanese firm has already developed a compelling upgrade for the MacBook Air — a 256GB SSD memory module which doubles the maximum capacity of the machines.

MacBook Air uses an SSD (flash memory) card instead of a hard drive. Photofast plans to offer 64GB / 128GB / 256GB SSD aftermarket upgrades.

The company (Photofast) says its upgrade is fast and stable, but promises speeds of 250MB/s for sequential reads and writes. Typically conservative in its promises, Apple promises just 150-160MB/s speeds. Overall, Photofast promises a 30 percent performance boost.

Photofast also offers kit to let you convert your existing MacBook Air SSD into a USB storage device. Pricing hasn’t yet been announced.
