HomeView isn’t launching in the EU, here’s why

Apple unveiled its new HomeView product today, and it’s available for pre-order now. But unfortunately HomeView isn’t coming to the EU, at least for now. Here’s why.

Apple cites Siri AI’s absence from iOS as reason why it can’t launch HomeView in EU

Today Apple launched its Siri AI-centric ‘HomeView’ smart display product.

But if you’re in the EU, you can’t order one yet. And that’s not a mistake or oversight.

Per Apple’s press release:

Apple HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union, as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU. Apple is working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.

It’s a surprising decision, since presumably Apple could launch HomeView with Siri AI in the EU—just not with support for features that tie in with iOS 27.

Siri AI is available with macOS Golden Gate and visionOS 27 in the EU, for example. That’s because macOS and visionOS aren’t deemed gatekeeper platforms the way iOS is by the Digital Markets Act.

If Apple did launch HomeView in the EU, it would likely need to disable certain personal context features related to Siri AI. And it seems the company believes a compromised experience like that wouldn’t be worth it. So it’s holding out until Siri AI is able to come to iPhone users in the EU.
