iOS 27.2 has three new changes just added this week

iOS 27.2 is launching soon for all users, but Apple keeps introducing new updates with each beta release. Here are three changes added to iOS 27.2 this week.

#1: Messages settings for new ‘Suggestions’ feature

If Apple's AI suggestions in Messages annoys you, there's a solution | Screengrab shows two examples of the feature

The Messages app adds a ‘Suggestions’ feature in iOS 27.2 that was originally meant for iOS 27.0, but was ultimately pulled from the summer beta.

Suggestions let you quickly, conveniently take action on a message you received. For example, by creating a new calendar event or reminder based on the message’s content.

In iOS 27.2 beta 4, Apple added a new option to enable or disable different types of suggestions. Inside Settings ⇾ Apps ⇾ Messages ⇾ Suggested Actions, you’ll now find toggles for five suggestion types:

  • Add to Calendar
  • Add to Reminders
  • Add to Notes
  • Show in Maps
  • Flights and Packages

#2: New Home app features for smart locks

It was a big week for Apple Home announcements. Joining the HomeView, new Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2, and Apple Home collection, the iOS 27.2 beta added a pair of Home app features for smart locks.

As discovered by leaker pdfu, ‘Lock After Closing’ is a new setting in the Home app when you have a compatible smart lock. It lets you choose how quickly your door should automatically lock itself after it’s been closed.

Similarly, pdfu found a new ‘Door Left Open’ notification option. It lets you program automatic alerts to notify you if a door was left open. You can choose from ‘Off’ or after 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.

#3: Apple Music’s new icon and design updates

Apple Music new icon light mode

Apple Music introduced some unexpected design changes in iOS 27.2 beta 4, including a new app icon, changed accent color, and refreshed widgets.

Essentially, Apple has stripped the iconic red accent color from the Music app’s branding. Now, app icons are a simple black and white, and widgets lose red backgrounds too in favor of black.

Additionally, the Music app’s tab bar now uses a blue accent color for the currently active tab—it was previously red.

So far reception online to these changes seems overwhelmingly negative. It will be interesting to see if Apple reverts any of these design updates moving forward. Though they clearly appear part of a broader rebranding effort for Apple Music.
