Is this the first video review of the iPhone 6?

The iPhone 6 leaks are coming fast and furious ahead of Tuesday’s event. This latest video is a supposed review of the iPhone 6 in Mandarin. We won’t know how legit it is for another 48 hours but it is certainly convincing.

One notable feature of these latest leaks is the Passbook (which they conveniently failed to open) icon which looks to have a Credit card on top. Update: The Weibo Account owner opened up Passbook and screenshotted (below)

A brief translation of the video from Stan1028 below (more in comments):

Just a brief translation:

One is an iPhone 5s and the other is, I’m not sure what it is gonna be called, probably the iPhone 6. You guys might be curious if this phone that I am holding might be a knock off or fake, but it does have an Touch ID, I (you) don’t think so? Let’s try and see that again.

My personal feel of the phone is that it is faster than the 5s. When I got the phone, I personally feel that it is very light, much lighter than expected when seeing the (leak) images online. It might be seen that the iPhone 6 is gonna be heavier, but it is not. Thus, I feel the iPhone 6 is much a lot lighter than the iPhone 5s. That is the first thought about the phone.

(80% accuracy)
The second thought is about the screen size. One might think that it is gonna be too big and needs more than one hand to operate, and Apple has done it with only one hand usage. (Not sure: By making the screen size taller to achieve it). Still feels comfortable using the iPhone just like the iPhone 5s.

(50% accuracy)
Thirdly is the ‘radians’ (according to Google Translate) or ‘Bezel’ on the sides, somewhat like the Samsung’s I9300 (or SIII). Which makes it feels comfortably good with one hand. [Talks about technology of the screen with him mentioning “2.5”.

On the back, it still retains the design of the iPhone 5 backing of the 3 parts. And still on the back, the iPhone 5s camera is within the body of the phone, but the one on the iPhone 6’s camera is protruding outwards. Some may feel that it is ugly, but I personally feel that if the camera quality is better, it is something good too (or I don’t mind either).

Since there isn’t much apps or software running, the performance feels about the same. But if according to Apple, the internal specs would certainly be an increase. For that, we would only know after the event.

Let’s open the camera app, this is the screen, (takes picture), taking pictures feels very fast, very fast, can’t imagine that. *Goes on opening the Photos app* Photo still feels quite small.

And that is all.

*Shows the different apps on the phone*
Unsure of the megapixel of the camera due to the lack of information.
The health app may connect to the iWatch.

And that is pretty much it.

2.5mm headphone jack?

• Magnus Kahr Jensen - 10 years ago

i have just checket it in photoshop, it is still 3.5″ but it look so tiny because of no bezel
see my proof here: http://imgur.com/3OHqVUc

• Mingding Wang - 10 years ago

He said it was a 2.5D curved cover glass.

• piratx - 10 years ago

only smaller cause new device is thinner maybe :/ remember iPhone 1st gen the headphone jack was really thin like the size of the plastic cover on EarPods and Apple headphones.

• MobileEMT (@MobileEMT) - 10 years ago

Ladies and Gentleman, I think this video just confirmed NON-SAPPHIRE on the iPhone 6. When he mentioned 2.5, he was mentioning 2.5’D’, which is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 product. 9to5mac, you may want to get ahead of that cover story before the announcement on Tuesday.

• MobileEMT (@MobileEMT) - 10 years ago

This is the same panel type (2.5D) being used on the Note 4.

• MobileEMT (@MobileEMT) - 10 years ago

I want to correct myself since I can’t delete my comment. The 2.5D refers to the curved cover ‘material’, which can be made of any substance it seems, including Sapphire. Guess we’re waiting to find out Tuesday!

2. You guys, I don’t know. I think it’s fake.

• Tom Liu - 10 years ago

I don’t think it’s fake, cause at the beginning of the video the man said : ”well, i have a iPhone in my hand, however i don’t know if it’s iPhone6 , but hey, look i can use the touchID with my finger prints to unlock this phone, so this is a iPhone right? cause no other phones have touch ID.” Then the man showed the unlocking again

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Nah Touch ID is in all kinds of Chinese knock offs, it takes you to the home screen immediately when you touch it, but it’s not actually a fingerprint reader.

• Tim Huang - 10 years ago

http://www.miaopai.com/show/GGrNjdfB873RdmM4VMNEIg__.htm checkout this, it demos the touch ID

• Cun Con - 10 years ago

I agree with you. A lot of people think it’s fake, but if a fake China made iPhone of which Touch ID is that responsive, and with the phone refinement, especially LIVE clock icon, I don’t think anyone would buy iPhone 5 times more expensive.
I would bet that this one is real. What you see here is the same one you’ll see 2 days from now. For information, in China, if you have enough money and know right people, you can get anything upfront regardless it’s Apple product with tight security…who are those security people, Chinese or American?

• Elias Sørensen - 10 years ago

Did you watch the end of the video where he gives a tour of several apps on the iPhone? A knockoff can’t make a 1:1 imitation of iOS. It’s simply not possible. Even the animations are 100% like stock iOS.

I am certain it’s a real iPhone 6.

• -MaK- - 10 years ago

don’t think so! in the scene after he made some pictures he locks the phone by hitting a button on the upper left – seems weird

• mahmudf2014 - 10 years ago

The power button is moved to the upper left side, so the guy is clicking to that new button

• piratx - 10 years ago

It’s not upper left but upper right, left is the volume and mute buttons. I still think it’s a fake one :)

• Cun Con - 10 years ago

Live Clock icon= real deal.

• borntofeel - 10 years ago

Of course it’s not fake!

• Kingston Modiselle - 10 years ago

It’s fake, think about all other iPhone releases from the previous years and the many leaks following up to the reveal of the actual phone…they’re never close, we’ll have to wait till Tuesday to find out though.

• Dean Har - 10 years ago

This is the iPhone that’ll be announced. iOS 8 is pretty much perfect on that device.

Just wish he commented on any significant changes to the screen. But the fact he didn’t probably says enough. I guess we’ll find out soon.

• “think about all other iPhone releases from the previous years and the many leaks following up to the reveal of the actual phone…they’re never close”

What universe were you in? Because the complete opposite of what you just said is true, in this one.

• borntofeel - 10 years ago

@kingston

Rugby, just like for the iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5… oh wait.

Of course it’s real, it’s extremely smooth.

• Tim Huang - 10 years ago

http://www.miaopai.com/show/GGrNjdfB873RdmM4VMNEIg__.htm checkout this, it demos the touch ID

• johnmfoley (@johnmfoley) - 10 years ago

Agreed. It’s the little things he didn’t do which suggests it’s fake:
1. Why not open up passbook with new payment icon?
2. Why not hold down the camera button for burst mode?
3. Why no test of Siri
4. Another person pointed out the clock hands are wrong and that the default wallpaper is wrong and that TouchID has been faked before–it doesn’t read the print just opens on Touch.

• Ray Wang - 10 years ago

Believe it or not, both siri and passbook are not well implemented in china so i bet he did not know how to use those. Another reason i believe that is not fake is that since iphone will be released in china in the first round and chinese people are not so good at keeping secrets, it is not really that surprising that they can get their hands on Iphone6 this early.

• borntofeel - 10 years ago

No Android phone is fast like that and we are to believe that this is fake? Give me a break!

• Wei Xiong - 10 years ago

It seems there are also tons of non-apple user douches trying to be professional in western world other than china lol…
BTW FIY:
You guys from this site only saw a tiny parts of the videos these guys uploaded.
more videos were uploaded on chinese site incuding testing siri etc. so I guess you would need to learn some chinese lol
Or just accept the fact this is the real deal You guys should appreciate that you got the chance to see the real phone before its official release.

• PMZanetti - 10 years ago

No, its even remotely fake.

At most, it is an EVT device, that does have the final version of OS.

But otherwise, this is it.

• PMZanetti - 10 years ago

Edit: NOT even remotely fake.

Hate wordpress so much.

3. Tom Liu - 10 years ago

Well, I can understand mandarin, some info the man mentioned in the video : 1.although the ip6 is larger than ip5s, it feels lighter than the ip5s 2. The screen glass is kinda like galaxy s3, it’s not totally flat.

• acslater017 - 10 years ago

That would be truly surprising, if the iPhone 6 was even lighter than the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 was a big leap in weight reduction, to 112 grams. Considering this thing is almost a 30% larger screen, that would be shocking to lose even more weight. Maybe he meant less dense, rather than truly lighter?

4. Jason ✡ (@Siilver777) - 10 years ago

Guy has an iPhone 6 with a new Passbook icon and “forgot” to try it along others ? I think it’s fake…

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Yep he hasn’t once hit the passbook app because it’s not real and they couldn’t make their own, all they could do was make an icon. The music app gradient is flipped and the biggest tell of all is the hands of the clock app are way too long. Apple wouldn’t make the hands of the clock app literally go over the numbers, especially in the final build of iOS 8?? Why would they just randomly decide to slaughter iOS 8 clock app in the final build?

Lastly mobile payment won’t be done in the passbook app, or any app at all. You’ll swipe your phone over a terminal, a pop up will show on the screen asking you to confirm payment, you’ll confirm the payment and then use Touch ID to approve it. The credit card info will be through iTunes and stored similar to Touch ID on the device and it will be done through settings if anything, not the passbook app, that makes no sense.

By the way there are a million Chinese knock offs that have Touch ID but they aren’t Touch ID it just immediately unlocks when you touch the button, it’s not looking for your fingerprint. You notice how fast it unlocked? It’s not checking anything. It’s just going.

• Dean Har - 10 years ago

They make a near perfect copy of what iOS 8 may look like but somehow they can’t manage to make a passbook fake? They have nothing to lose faking passbook considering how little we know about it.

I think what we have here is that the “reviewer” is actually just your average iPhone user that NEVER used passbook on his 5S and so didn’t even think about opening it up on this new device, whatever it is. If he mentioned the new passbook icon but didn’t open it, that would have been sketchy. But it looks like it slipped passed him entirely.

As for TouchID unlocking faster than before, isn’t that what we’d expect on their second iPhone with that feature?

I’m not saying I’m 100% convinced, but just don’t sh*t yourself if this turns out to be the real deal, haha

• Dean Har - 10 years ago

Well here’s some evidence that I’m right about TouchID:

http://m.miaopai.com/show/GGrNjdfB873RdmM4VMNEIg__.htm

More vids:

http://m.miaopai.com/u/paike_z0t1u6fi1m

This is real guys. The only other explanation I can think of is that this is some kind of (very) functional prototype. Otherwise I can’t see how this is not real. I’m gonna sh*t my own pants if this turns out to be fake…

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Nope, I’m saying they didn’t design mobile payments into that app. They couldn’t have done it, thry couldn’t have made it look even remotely like Apple would. Also the volume buttons look of absolutely terrible quality. This is not an iPhone 6. It is a really good fake, that is all.

Please tell me in what universe Apple would make the minutes hand of the clock go over the numbers, almost touching the very end of the circle? The answer is: no universe.

• fromzerotoruby - 10 years ago

@Dean Har- he mentions the passbook app around 6:25

• Dean Har - 10 years ago

It doesn’t matter if they wouldn’t have made it “remotely like Apple would”… It’s a fake! Just make something up since no one knows how it’s suppose to look until its actually announced on Tuesday…

As for the clock icon, I’d say it’s the same universe where Apple would make an iPhone that nearly everyone thinks looks terrible: this universe. Technically, NFC and mobile payments are suppose to be a surprise, so maybe it’s not so crazy that they changed the passbook icons and others last minute. Are we forgetting how awful and un-Apple the Safari icon looks? lol. No one believed it either when images leaked.

When you say “they didn’t design mobile payments into that app,” are you speaking from inside knowledge or what? Cause I don’t see why you couldn’t use passbook to enter credit card information or view purchase history or something along those lines… I really really want to believe that these leaks are fake, but the points you’re making are kinda weak :/

I included a link in an earlier comment (hopefully the moderators post it soon), and you can see someone using 3rd party applications and posting a comment on some social network and it says some equivalent to “posted from iPhone.” But since he downloaded a 3rd party app, that means the App Store should be working… if he posts a video of him selecting and downloading an app, it’s game over :(

• mitchchn - 10 years ago

Again, the clock hand argument is quite silly. Here is what the icon looks like in Yosemite: http://imgur.com/EfZ5Tcs

• feixiaxia - 10 years ago

don’t you guys check the updates? They do opened the Passbook and gave a photo http://photo.weibo.com/1694061470/wbphotos/large/mid/3752141652666661/pid/64f9539ejw1ek3sfae0ruj20dc0hsmye

Am I blind or is there an LED indicator between the volume buttons? Seen seems that it blinks for 2 times from 0:48 and you see some strange dark space between the volume buttons at 4:18

• Magnus Kahr Jensen - 10 years ago

nice spottet, it sure look like it

• xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

Looks like one to me

• rettun1 - 10 years ago

I think that the initial ‘flashes’ are due to light reflecting off of the chamfered edges on the volume buttons. And maybe the dark space could be explained by recessed buttons that create a shadow? Dunno, hard to totally tell though

• macmaniman - 10 years ago

my first thought was no, not very appley, maybe light reflection, but pause it at 04:16, and ill be damned

• It very much looks like there’s a light there. It even has the soft pulsing glow you find on imac and macbook power indicator light. But how could it be there and this guy not point it out. There has been no schematic or mockup that shows a light between the volume buttons. Wont truely know till tuesday (or whenever someone with a bit more reviewing experience gets ahold of this phone)

6. Dan Eaton - 10 years ago

I’m pretty sure that’s the same (i)Phone as the other one doing the rounds. Looks like the same photo in the gallery as the other guy took (cigarette packet).

Wonder why nobody has gone into Passbook yet?

• Ray Wang - 10 years ago

Believe it or not, both siri and passbook are not well implemented in china so i bet he did not know how to use those. Since this iPhone is released in china, there are may be some difference between those released in the US.

i’ve seen few videos already and for some reason every app is showed but never app store app, why is that, could play store open?

9. shm1ck83 - 10 years ago

Dunno, but at the 38sec mark after he unlocks the phone for the second time he swipes the wrong way to go to another page of apps.

He swipes from left to right instead of right to left.

• eldonchew - 10 years ago

Look carefully, 0:34, he swipes from right to left and the page bounced back because there isn’t a 3rd page.
He then swipe from left to right to return to the first page.

10. I’ve been waiting for the iphone 6 for months. I currently use a Samsung and I loathe it.

I’m 99.999% convinced that this video is the real deal. And I am pretty disappointed in the ugliness of the rear antenna bands. And the protruding camera. I’d much rather apple had made the phone a bit thicker to lengthen battery capacity, allowing a flush camera also.

I’ll still buy one as my main reason for wanting to return to iphone is ios. I hate android , and it’s bugs.

But I have to be honest and admit the iphone 6 is not the prettiest apple product by a long shot.

Ho hum.

• Dan Eaton - 10 years ago

Most people, me included, will want to put their shiny new (and very expensive) iPhone in a case to prevent it from being damaged. This will likely make the fit camera flush with the case and it’ll look quite smart. This will also hide the bands – although I think they look quite stylish compared to leaks that have surfaced over previous months. I can imagine that Apple already has cases at the ready as well as a plethora of other accessories to make life easier.

I too will be leaving Android behind when this is released. Since buying my iMac last year and owning several other Apple products it’ll be nice to have a selection of products that will work very well with each other. I didn’t want the 5s as I didn’t find the 5 big enough for me, so it’ll be great to have an iPhone that will be large enough for my requirements.

• Xavier Poirot (@dalaen) - 10 years ago

That’d be brilliant if Apple made a case fitting perfectly around the lens.

• jpatel6002 - 10 years ago

So true. Phone looks really ugly with those antenna lines and protruding camera. I was hopping bit glossiness or shiny looking, but it just looks dull, something just came from scrap/garbage yard. Hope this not the final look. I would still buy because of iOS, but would prefer always a better looking case. I have been iPhone user since iPhone4, but this one really disappoints.

• Cun Con - 10 years ago

With big screen like this, it doesn’t need to be pretty, but well perform and just enough to look better than a Samsung Galaxy. Protrude camera? I guess Samsung Galaxy has it too. If you bought Samsung which was ugly, there’s no reason that this iPhone 6 doesn’t look better.

11. Lagax (@Lagax_) - 10 years ago

He said something about Passbook in the last minute of the video, can anyone translate that?

• eldonchew - 10 years ago

The video is 7:16 minutes long. Closely watch between 5:30 and 5:50. You’ll see the front camera and sensor disappear and then show up again. How is that even possible? When you watch the video in slow-mo there is even a shift in video frames.. I’d be surprised if this is the real deal. Well, we’ll find out soon :)

14. Vince Yuan (@vinceyuan) - 10 years ago

Brief translation:
0:06 iPhone 5s in his left hand. New iPhone (maybe iPhone 6) in his right hand.

5:12 Let’s look at the version of iOS. (But he did not tell us the version. That part of video was removed.)
5:30 The resolution of the camera is very high.

15. Toby Lloyd - 10 years ago

From looking at that video and other articles around the internet its clear that the camera is raised up from the rest of the phone, not sure why this might be (better lens or something). My problem is, would Apple really do this? I mean won’t it make the back unstable when resting on a flat surface, like an annoying wobbly table at a restaurant. What are your thoughts?

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Apple would do this, and is doing this. It will not make the back unstable when used on a flat surface. I have an iPod Touch 5th generation and tried it on a flat surface, and if you are unaware it has a protruding camera. It moves so little as to be almost indistinguishable from completely flat. The iPhone 6 is both wider and taller than this, and likely has a less protruding camera, thus it will be even less noticeable. My major question is though, how many people use their phone on a flat surface with one hand? I seriously don’t know how you can even do it, because it will absolutely slide and move if you try to interact with the screen. Then only way to do it is to stabilize it with your other hand. How are you people keeping the phone still?

16. David Tan (@d4vidtan) - 10 years ago

Looks convincing, main change would be the headphone jack and the edge of the display in rounded shape like s3 for easy holding in one hand. He also note on how light and fast the device is. Can’t wait

• gibsarno - 10 years ago

We have a shipment of iPhones coming in on Wednesday, so apple are getting stocked up in the uk

17. William Dowell (@wdowell) - 10 years ago

A lot of work to put in if this is fake! Im guessing it’s real.

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Apple wouldn’t make the clock icon like that, that’s all you need to know. It’s fake

• mitchchn - 10 years ago

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Not at all convinced in any way. There are numerous reasons this is fake.

18. Raul Teodor Chicinas - 10 years ago

The design of this phone has been leaked a few months ago, when they showed the casing… In this whole time Apple could have made a new design of the phone and keep it secret, they just got this one out so people would be busy talking about it.

It’s hard for me to believe they will leave the design as it is showed in the video, it should have been an improvement not a step-back from the design of the 5S.

19. o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Who has a 5S? Can you swipe to the pass code unlock and then use Touch ID and tell us whether the passcode dots above the keys light up before it unlocks? It does this in the video…just wondering if it actually does that.

• pepe779 - 10 years ago

Yes, that’s exactly how 5S works too. Anyway, if this is what Apple is going to call their next revolutionary device, I’m afraid their “biggest event in 25 years” will turn into their biggest flop in 25 years. They’re apparently out of ideas and this is nothing more than a slightly upgraded 5S. Would be more appropriate if they called this thing 5L or something.

• Bruno Fernandes (@Linkb8) - 10 years ago

You’re going to be eating some serious claim chowder in two days…

• jrox16 - 10 years ago

It’s not like anyone else is doing anything revolutionary with phones. Samsung finally added a metal frame now! Wow! LG put in a QHD display which actually has been reviewed as the worst part of the phone due to dim outdoor use and battery life. Every phone from everyone for the past few years has been a “minor upgrade” from the year before. The most innovative thing in phones lately has been Touch ID. (Because it’s not unreliable and difficult to use old tech swipe reading)

• pepe779 - 10 years ago

And that’s the problem. Nobody has introduced anything revolutionary in the last few years, so it was Apple’s chance to prove again who’s the trend setter. And they promised they will. So this is the best they can do? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Apple fanboy and I know this will still be a rock solid smartphone. The main problem I have with all this is how Apple itself plans to present this to the whole world. This phone would mean something in 2012, but now it’s like 2 generations too late. It would also be perfectly ok if they silently released this now as the bigger version of 5S, because let’s admit that, what we see in this video is not much more than that. Not to mention that the design is just plain ugly and doesn’t feel premium at all. Now it’s just one of the 18k smartphones out there. Also, the bigger/thinner/lighter/faster formula just doesn’t cut it any longer. This, in my opinion, is a clear evidence that the smartphone market as we know it is dead and, even worse, we are yet to see the first game changing product in the post-Jobs era. Tim might be a great manager, but he is no visionary and I’m afraid it clearly shows.

• Xavier Poirot (@dalaen) - 10 years ago

Yes it does.
It’s like unlocking the code through Touch ID fills the code for you (lighting up the dots) :)

Yeah, I just tried and it does exactly that. ;-)

20. Kevin Stuckey - 10 years ago

Has anyone noticed the “Slide to Unlock” is gone?

• I am running iOS 8 beta and the “Slide to Unlock” is not present for a few seconds. It only show up if you don’t quickly unlock. I’m guessing Apple did this to further clean up the interface since everyone knows what to do anyway. And if you don’t, it tells you after a few seconds.

• Kevin Stuckey - 10 years ago

On my iPhone 5 running iOS 8 beta, it immediately comes up when I hit the Home or sleep/wake button. It may be a feature that is limited to the 5s and later.

• rettun1 - 10 years ago

On the 5s when you wake the device, “Slide to Unlock” doesn’t show up for a few seconds either

• Kevin Stuckey - 10 years ago

Oh ok. I have an iPhone 5 so I didn’t realize that. I do wish that Apple would give us the option to hide “Slide to Unlock” and only show the symbol for unlocking.

• rettun1 - 10 years ago

I agree, the absense of the text makes for a much cleaner look

21. I would feel more confident about this one if they showed us the redesigned Control Center for iOS 8. No knock off has ever made a good “Control Center”, they are usually slow and have fake translucency.

But still, the folders had translucency and no fake iPhone on the market has done translucency. They usually just add a fake picture of translucency like GooPhone i5s and so on. Not to mention the smoothness when he went through screens and apps.

I think this is real, no knock off will ever be or look this good,

• jrox16 - 10 years ago

You touch on the one thing that makes me suspicious this is fake… No showing of control center or notification center. Why? A fake would likely struggle with the Gaussian blur and stutter, so maybe this is just an amazingly good fake? Why didn’t he show those in all of 7 minutes even once?
Otherwise I was convinced it was real. I’m 50/50 because of that, and also because he didn’t show Passbook/Healthbook.

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

I’m 100% thinking it is fake because the only detail you need is that the hands on the clock are far too long. It’s not even in the realm of possibility that Apple would do that, that Apple would overlap the minutes hand on the numbers…

22. 4004 (@toha4004) - 10 years ago

Doubling down on security, my ass

23. Bruno Fernandes (@Linkb8) - 10 years ago

There’s no doubt whosoever that this is real. Enjoy it or don’t, that doesn’t change the veracity of the video.

re: Passbook. Have you tried opening Passbook on any other phone when it’s not set up? Useless. And does the video strike you as well rehearsed in any way?

• jrox16 - 10 years ago

Why did he not show control or notification centers at all, not once? (Not that I recall)
I’m suspicious because that Gaussian blur would make a fake phone likely stutter as it wouldn’t be optimized for that graphical effect.

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Why are the hands of the clock so long? Please tell us your reasoning there.

• Bruno Fernandes (@Linkb8) - 10 years ago

Reasoning? Who gives a crap.

You know that iOS is available for download right? The easiest way to make a fake would be to connect the iPhone 5 innards to a larger display running the same old resolution and running the iOS 8 previews. The software would all run, all the parts would work and you’d never notice the lower resolution on video. In other words, it would be near perfect and disprove all the stupid crap people are pointing out as evidence of this being fake.

There’s nothing missing from the video that would’t have been trivial to fake given everything else that’s shown. Some people are grasping at straws.

But doing all this chicanery would prove what? It would be a bigger PITA than obtaining a working prototype for some people. The event is 2 days away. You think that all those parts could have leaked without enough of them leaking that a fully functional phone could be assembled? Or leaked complete?

Again, if you doubt this is real, then you don’t know anything about the iPhone, iOS8 nor Apple, let alone editing video and making fake stuff look real. And you probably think the moon landings were fake.

24. xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

Well being that an entire phone has never been leaked before, I think it’s fake. Looks convincing butttttttttttt theres no point of arguing wether this is fake or not being that were going to see it in 48hrs.

25. standardpull - 10 years ago

As a technical person, I look at the world differently than the fashionistas here. I am not that into style. I’d rather have a great functional design. If stripes and polkadots are the best for the antenna and makes for better phone, go for it.

My main concern is size. I don’t want a device that is too big or too small. I loved the size of the 4/4S, and the 5/5S size is OK. I am worried about a bigger phone as the only option (or the “premier” option).

Like the current and historic 11/12/13/15/17 inch Mac laptops, optimal size is in the eye of its user. For me, yeah, I’d love a huge screen, but only if it can come in a small device. Unfortunately, those demands are mutually exclusive. There is no way to make me perfectly happy – it is just a series of trade-offs.

26. howsie22 - 10 years ago

I doubt this is the real iPhone 6
Reasons:
– Lack of dual LED flash
– Picture quality dropped between the ‘6’ and the 5s
– Apple wouldn’t have the extruding on such a high end product

I’m really hoping Apple bring out a surprise product that looks nothing like any of the rumours.

30. srjuanjo - 10 years ago

I think Apple have not struggled with the “new” design of this iPhone 6, oh boy! what a huge and horrible bezels. I strongly believe that this is the iPhone that Apple will show us in the next keynote.

• standardpull - 10 years ago

Bezels actually serve a purpose: they impact “touch” at fingers approach the edge of the screen, they provide device strength, screen protection, and room for the guts inside of the device. The trick is to minimize them without negatively impacting their important function.

Those with a 6th generation iPod Nano experienced bezels that were a bit too small. The screen had to be glued in place, the screen was subject to more damage, and the screen corners were hard to touch with any kind of accuracy.

You might be more concerned with style, but bezels do provide real function. If Apple can get rid of them without negatively impacting function, I sure they will. But if getting rid of them negatively impacts the function, they will keep the bezels.

• jorge1170x - 10 years ago

Yes, bezels are necessary so grandma can hold onto her iphone with one arthritic hand while her other hand pokes away at her simplistic grid of icons.

31. iluvappleblog - 10 years ago

The phone is generally slow when opening the apps or closing, also touch sensitivity is questionable, doesn’t work at all times, not Apple quality. Slide to unlock in not there. My feeling is this is a high quality knock off. If it’s real, it wouldn’t go past the connect to iTunes stage ( would not activate).

• Bruno Fernandes (@Linkb8) - 10 years ago

Guess you haven’t used or seen iOS 8 in action yet.

BTW, every iPhone on the planet has responsiveness issues depending on how you touch it and individual’s skin condition.

I have a strange feeling this is a fake/knockoff of the new iPhone! Why take the time to make a seven minute video and have the videographer constantly moving about zooming in and out? Why not just hold still and have smooth transitions? It’s like the video was shot by a seven-year-old with ADD????

laughable design if it is true

36. Jaime López (@jajajaime) - 10 years ago

I think it’s an iPhone 6 prototype. Apple tests a lot of them before getting to the actual thing. That’s why the plastic and big bezels and all. I also don’t think this is the prototype that made it to the final version.

37. Marco Torti - 10 years ago

I think that this will be more or less how it will look like.
I have some doubts about the video…
first of all whenever he swipes right there is something written about the touchid (where in my 5s asks only for the code)
second if you listen carefully he always cliks on the home button to access the springboard
third at 4:14 you can easly see that the apple logo and the iPhone writing is different
the compass icon is different
That said i honestly think that the 4.7 inches iPhone will look almost like that, but the one in the video is an Android fake

38. Luke Rhodes - 10 years ago

Very convincing – my only problem with it is that iOS works on it at all. If the phone was lost and then picked up, it would surely be one of the devices that Apple or operators are using for real-world tests. The phone’s connected to wi-fi, wouldn’t Apple have locked it down immediately. There’d be a timing factor there of course but it seems like the guy’s had a chance to play with it a bit.

Any resolution or pixel density guesses If this is real?

40. NQZ (@surgesoda) - 10 years ago

Phil Schiller (C) 2012 Interview regarding the lack of NFC on the iPhone – “It’s not clear that NFC is the solution to any current problem, Schiller said. “Passbook does the kinds of things customers need today.” — So now two years later they finally catch on — and all the iSheep at the time said NFC was useless — now let’s all watch them buy this and say woah omg0rz this nfc payment with my credit cardz is so kewlz!

• NQZ (@surgesoda) - 10 years ago

Just in case you didn’t get it, my point is that the iPhone & iPad both should have had NFC credit card payments two years ago. But we all know they didn’t, and everyone at the time said NFC was useless.
Overall — Apple is behind the curve, not in front of it. Google wallet has been able to buy me coffee at mcdonalds for over TWO YEARS! Apple has chosen to fight legal battles in courtrooms rather than to continue to innovate…and that really sucks….the only thing I’m really interested in anymore is the iWatch, and hopefully the announcement of a 12″ retina MB air.

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Seriously buddy? You’re gonna be so sad when Apple’s actually works. Turns out it takes time to make things work, and do them well. If they put NFC in the iPhone 5, where’s the secure, quick, and easy confirmation of payment (hint: Touch ID)? That came in the 5S, and everyone knows apple doesn’t redesign in 1 year intervals. They needed this redesign to properly add NFC, and needed the time to come up with the right solution. Not to mention NFC was no where two years ago. I’m glad you’ve had fun paying for your coffee though.

• PMZanetti - 10 years ago

Anytime I read someone say, “Apple should have done this two years ago” I file them away in my mind as a completely immature neanderthal from whom I can ignore any and all future comments.

• Bruno Fernandes (@Linkb8) - 10 years ago

NFC 2 years ago was useless. NFC today without the iPhone and Apple is useless. Apple will make it useful and it will become more than a niche technology that the majority of people have never heard of. If Apple is getting into payments, expect it to become ubiquitous and every Android phone a follower or tag along, just like everything else Apple has introduced.

Apple isn’t interested in being first with anything. They’re interested in being the best, most widely respected, most desired and the biggest money makers. As a shareholder I’m all over this strategy and I hope they don’t change it.

Some folks don’t get it. A piece of technology is only USEFUL if it can be used (seriously, look up the word in the dictionary). And that requires, more often than not, more than the mere existence of the pieces of hardware it’s built with.

Just like 3G data on the original iPhone would have been a giant waste of time and money.

41. guacho8 - 10 years ago

as another guy pointed out…there is a light blinking between the volume buttons at 0:48….

42. Is it just me or when he unlocks it each time if you look closely the lock screen fades lost upwards…that is either a change in iOS 8 we don’t know about or the video is fake…

43. Emanuel Rier (@E_Rier) - 10 years ago

The “Music” app icon looks different. The gradient is reversed as opposed to the current icon. However, that’s how the new iTunes icon looks on Yosemite, so maybe they’re changing it.

44. rrobinson1216 - 10 years ago

He’ll show his own face, but purposefully covers the back below the apple logo? Also fails to open Passbook, which would show the new interface for payments…I have to call shenanigans. Not that I don’t think the phone won’t look very similar to that, but I don’t think he actually has the new phone in his hands.

• Bruno Fernandes (@Linkb8) - 10 years ago

Passbook has no interface when it’ snot set up. So it wouldn’t have shown anything except a welcome message. Besides, if someone made a fake of everything else, why could they not simply fake Passbook? Do some people think passbook is some kind of anti-counterfeiting measure?

Look, wait two days and when what’s announced is identical to what was just shown on video you can still cal this a fake.

45. 89p13 - 10 years ago

I just wish these people would realize that they are NOT shooting for a Michael Bay movie – they don’t need the rotating (side to side) camera movement, nor the rapid zoom in / zoom out. Mount the camera on a tripod, show closeups and stop the extraneous camera movement and zooms.

Just my opinion – YMMV

46. Eli Matar - 10 years ago

47. breakingallillusionsx - 10 years ago

Don’t bother thinking about what real whats not. On Tuesday we will all find out. If u like it buy it! If you don’t then you have nothing to worry about.

48. Lars Pallesen - 10 years ago

If this is the real thing, and I’m afraid it is, then I’m disappointed that the bezels aren’t slimmer than on the iPhone 5. It pretty much ruins the attempt at elegance with the curved display glass. Let’s face it, this is not the best looking iPhone ever. Same old boring face and now with an uglier backside due to the protruding camera and the inlaid antenna plastic strips. Hope the larger display and the upgraded camera and internal components can make up for that somewhat. It’s not exactly beautiful to look at.

• rettun1 - 10 years ago

The bezel actually has decreased. Both the white frame, as well as the thin black frame directly around the LCD display, have seen a slight reduction in width

• jorge1170x - 10 years ago

Yeah but nobody’s interested in slight, almost imperceptible reductions when companies like Sharp have completely eliminated 3 of the 4 bezels. Impractical design, probably, but when the sharp aquous becomes well-witnessed the unwashed masses will demand that type of sleekness from Apple too, even more than they are now.

• rettun1 - 10 years ago

In time, perhaps. That sharp phone does look interesting, I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone soon resembled the imac, with a “chin” on the bottom being the only bezel

I don’t think so!, because not all of us have the same wrist size, so in that video you see a fixed wristwatch, so not for all the public.. but I think it is quite pretty!!!

• jorge1170x - 10 years ago

Well it turned out to be a fake…I’m soooo sorry about that, but honestly if you think about it the outer “shell” of these things won’t be that hard to manufacture at some point so I think they can make the same device in maybe four different sizes. S,M,L,XL. For women especially, since I don’t think their wrists vary that much. Just a crazy idea.

• rettun1 - 10 years ago

Maybe because it is totally unverifiable. Looks cool, but I think he tried too hard to make it seem as if he was being all sneaky and almost got caught. I say, fake.

• jorge1170x - 10 years ago

I don’t think this needs verification. I can’t even begin to imagine how one would fake this. It would take ILM to do some super expensive photo-realistic rendering and nobody’s paying for that. I think it would still look like CGI anyway, and this is not CGI. The animations on the screen are all Apple, no one has the resources to fake that in a “working mock-up” kind of way. Look at the shape, only a mega-manufacturer like Apple can make that tapered shape work in real life. I say 100% real or real prototype.

I imagine it ships with various lengths of the “Apple logo” piece to snap on? I just cant see anyone being able to fake that leak video animation and all. The ad, yes that could be faked but at great effort and cost.

• secondsky (@secondskyxxx) - 10 years ago

The thing that lets me quastion the video is:
1. The watch turns itself on –> Maybe face recognition? Everything else would not make sense.
2. Why did Apple not take that Youtube video down?

• secondsky (@secondskyxxx) - 10 years ago

if it is a fake (the original publisher is a CGI guy) its a good one, even all the stock numbers match the date 21 june or more accurately from 20 june as the 21 was a saturday

• jorge1170x - 10 years ago

If Amazon can make a stupid phone that knows when you’re looking at it, then of course the iwatch will awaken when it sees a face. Everything looks right about that video because something like that cannot be faked to that perfection yet. I think the i Watch has been under our noses for 2 months and the tech blogs were told to ignore it or suffer the wrath of apple. No wonder every time they write an iwatch article they post the UGLIEST STUPIDEST designs out there, to lead people in the exact opposite direction.

Here I thought that amateur (as in non-hollywood) CGI artists could not fake something to this level of perfect detail, but apparently they did. These guys with too much time on their hands should work for Apple though because they know how to design and are waaaay talented.

initially he unlocked it through right hand thumb and then later in the last he unlocked it through left hand first finger. its very unlikely that people register two three fingers for touch id.. and yes if it was real.. then any damn person would have made the video in the best way… just showing normal features is not enough.. they should have shown the about menu in the settings and also the working appstore. I dnt understand why the camera man have to shake the whole video and move backward and forward again and again.. The screen looks too much plastic types (reflects more than the iphone 5s screen, its not normal) .. if its shaphire then check the iphone 5 camera cover it looks very premium.
Check at 1:52 at that particular moment he kept his thumb on the touch id.. and seeing the video the response of touch id was too fast but at this particular time it didnt unlock the phone..
He is continuously hiding the lower back of the iphone.. might be a glitch.
No dual tone flash ..
See the pictures clicked 3:57.. the corners of the pictures are dark thats not a good lens.
5:03, 5:14 he does not press the home screen he just touches it..
and when u open the facetime it opens up with the front camera… not the login screen.
and also the watch hand..
Game center, itunes store app store in english and rest in chinese..
a total fake thing..
according to the leaks it is going to look like same but i am sure its not gonna be this one…

Very good fake. How come the passbook app is never shown? guy doesn’t test out all apps or features on phone. color gradient is wrong on music app. minute hand too long on clock app. shows no sim but in settings shows the carrier name? guy conveniently covers up model and serial number in settings app with his thumb. finish quality of aluminum on phone is not up to apple’s standards. screen is too reflective. touch id button looks plastic. Model number is never shown on back of phone-it’s covered up with a post it in one photo.

57. Sandesh (@SandeshNZ) - 10 years ago

I absolutely think this is real! And here are some more videos of the iPhone 6 from the same guys (i think)
This video shows passbook very briefly… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mpjKzkDwcQ
But check out the Youtube channel for even more! : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg_Ymira2UA2Wd281UXYkeg

LOL passbook for 2 seconds, and there is no credit card icon in it??? In fact there are less icons in it than mine has right now. Did they remove something in iOS 8? I’m sure they wouldn’t have the credit card icon in the app. OH WAIT

58. Mish An - 10 years ago

Nope. Russians were first, I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=657UeODW178

In the pictures he took of this ” iphone 6 ” the built in applications are in English & in Chinese. That’s not possible. It’s fake!!! Just wait until Tuesday!!!!

60. cmadsen83 - 10 years ago

It’s a clear fake.. They made a very good fake but forgot a small detail – the clock icon! It’s not even close to the IOS 8 icon.

After seeing lots of comments here, i find those people who find this phone fake actually makes some wrong assumptions:
1. This iPhone is released early before the conference so lots of its new features may not be useful right now and showing only the icons does not make it fake.
2. You guys should know that this video is meant for chinese users. Since both Siri and Passbook are not implemented well there, there is no surprise that the video does not say anything about those.
3. It is not really surprising that someone can get iPhone early in China. As a native chinese who live in the US right now, i don’t find the idea of keeping secrets in china is all that important especially when you can show off your special connections in the society by getting the new iPhone before everyone else.
But as an engineer, i tend to be more prudent so i believe it 99.9%.

62. André Hedegaard Petersen - 10 years ago

This reminds me so much of that other China guy from Gizmodo that leaked the iPhone 4.
This chinaman is the same disgusting sort of person. Absolute disregard for a wonderful piece of tech as an iPhone.

65. the back is so gross. It’s not a pretty pone by any stretch of the imagination. Give me a gold iPhone 5s for life!

• nullifiedone - 10 years ago

Be my guest. I love the white and black iphone 5s look. But the gold looks like ass.
Take all the gold please :p

66. jgarcia4380 - 10 years ago

It is very hard to tell but if you look closely there is one very important app missing and that is the Tips app. Unless Apple is thinkig about removing it from the final build!!

67. Darron Crowe - 10 years ago

The larger camera and better battery life will be a big plus to the updated iPhone 6. One thing that will make this a market changer is capabilities to use mobile payments. Keep a sharp eye on any announcement Apple makes concerning this new approach. If successful, big things are going to happen when it comes to the way we pay for products and services.

68. any rumored specs on the front camera?

69. rafaalvfe - 10 years ago

Have you seen the clock icon? It seems to be fake, look at the clock hands, they don’t match the real design, they are too long, why would they be different in the new iphone? Apple wouldn’t do that, just saying

70. I really hope the camera lens does not stick out like that, just seems like that will be ripe for breakage, scratching and snagging on stuff. I hope I’m wrong but can’t get over thinking it will be bad to have it protrude out like that.

• nullifiedone - 10 years ago

Id rather of had a thicker phone with a flush camera. But if sticking out makes it a better camera in any way ill be fine with it. Im sure ill have a case either way

• André Hedegaard Petersen - 10 years ago

My sentiments as well. When I first heard rumours the camera might protude, I was like “sigh, ok I guess”, but now I’m ok with it as mine is always in a thick cover anyway. So the a better camera, bigger aperture and larger lens and more MP I’m all for it :)

• o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

It doesn’t break as it’s so small and it’s nearly impossible to scratch under normal usage as it’s sapphire.

71. piratx - 10 years ago

I tried to read everything and watched the video many times. Anyone seen that the guy only shows us the left side of the copy (new device/no way iPhone 6) ?
Check again http://cl.ly/image/2h3D203m1y1O and http://cl.ly/image/0K171h0Y1p0v it’s exactly the same.. hmmm

72. krikaoli - 10 years ago

I hope that this video is fake, because I found it very boring this new iPhone 6! Where is the horizontal line of five icons ?! The iPhone 6 is just an iPhone with larger screen ?! For real?

73. Richard Kibbey - 10 years ago

If this is really it, then I hate to say it but I’m not impressed and I’m a real Apple fan boy lol :), I’ve been an iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad user for almost 5yrs now and had all the iPhones up to 6. If this is the new phone then it’s just bigger and a bit faster with the same old boring iOS interface.

Might be time for me to try out some other phones for a year or two and then come back when Apple have something good to offer again (phone wise, everything else is awesome lol).

• Alex (@Metascover) - 10 years ago

No one believes you. You are complaining about the same stuff people complain about every year.
Go grab your check and GTFO.

74. Masson Liang - 10 years ago

Quite the poor translation. He clearly says it’s an Android device in the first 15 seconds of the video. He even asks, “Does this Android version have Touch ID?”

Debunked.

75. Truffol (@Truffol) - 10 years ago

that’s crazy…how the iphone is so thin they decided to eliminate the headphone jack bezel

76. tkhorbotly - 10 years ago

This is definitely the 4.7″ version of the iPhone 6 which doesn’t have any surprises. But you better wait for the unveiling of the 5.5″ which will be an all-new device. Few leaks occurred for the bigger iPhone and that will be the main attention through Apple’s keynote alongside their wearable device.

77. herb02135go - 10 years ago

This is a real Apple fan, alright. You can tell this by the way he says he doesn’t like something but then says “it must be better so I like it.”

And yea, it’s faster because he’s comparing it to a phone that’s a year old.
Totally spineless guy who has gulped the Kool Aid.

It was fun to watch the video as I typed this, using the multitasking feature on my S5.
Now I must find a powerful outlet to recharge the battery. NOT!

• Herbie herbie, not so funny as always. Hope you enjoyed listening to tiny video on your screen (yes, LISTENING) BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT WRITE AT THE SAME TIME YOU WATCH SOMETHING!! Unless your aim is to be unproductive. Oh, and yes, while you were doing so the lag had to be “so beautiful”. Enjoy your crap ;)

• André Hedegaard Petersen - 10 years ago

I don’t get it? Why come to an Apple rumour site if you’re so happy with your Samsung shit?
I mean I don’t go trolling on Samsung forums writing about Apple stuff and how good it is compared to Samsung. Just seems pointless and childish.

78. Ethan Nichol - 10 years ago

One of the first things he says is that it’s a Shanzhai iPhone… which is chinese slang for counterfeit. Come on 9to5mac! Didn’t you get a native speaker to translate this for you?

Now the counterfeit versions from China usually look quite similar to the real iphones, so how real this one will actually look is anybody’s guess.

• firelord1989 - 10 years ago

Are you serious ? that means he got this phone from anonymous people, he doesnt want to say this is a new iphone, because that’s illegal, shanzhai is a cover to escape the law issue.

• BT (@AllAboutAV) - 10 years ago

If you do not speak the language, do not speculate. It just makes you sound that much dumber.

• Tim Stidham (@timstidham) - 10 years ago

Doesn’t he say it’s NOT a Shanzhai iPhone, even though some may think so? That seems much more logical. The translator includes it as “you guys might be curious if this is a knock off or fake, but…”
Are you suggesting that he calls it. Shanzhai iPhone at some other point in the video?

• stan1028 - 10 years ago

Well, he is saying “You guys might be curious if this phone that I am holding might be a knock off or fake, but it does have an Touch ID”. The word “ShanZhai” being used is to elaborate “knock off or fake” in this sentence.

79. simcat888 - 10 years ago

Morning meeting – getting ready to make first copies!

80. André Hedegaard Petersen - 10 years ago

What a fishmonger in the video. Just like the Gizmodo freak from iPhone 4 leaks.

81. Alex (@Metascover) - 10 years ago

I can’t believe there were so many morons who thought this was a fake. Those people give a bad image to the Apple community, uncapable of recognizing a real iPhone from a fake…
