Reddit finally has its own official application for browsing and posting to your favorite subreddits, and users of the service will probably be excited to learn that it’s one they may already be using. The site has acquired the rights to the popular Alien Blue client and hired the developer responsible for creating it.
Alien Blue got a few bug fixes today and was released with a new App Store listing and is avaiable for free for all users. For the next week, all users will be able to get the Alien Blue Pro upgrade for free as well. Reddit launched its first official application earlier this year with the release of the Ask Me Anything app.

So what you’re saying is that the official Reddit app (iReddit) released in June 2010 doesn’t count?
That wasn’t the official Reddit app
Yes, it was. It was actually made internally at reddit, and they used to link to it directly from the site’s footer. You can still download the source code for the app straight from reddit’s GitHub page. It doesn’t get much more official than that.
I already own the original as well as the pro upgrade. I don’t understand why they just didn’t upgrade the existing one to reflect the changes.
The developer of AlienBlue (Jase) had an Apple dev account to which he uploaded AlienBlue as his app. In order for Reddit to take control of the app, they needed to make the app under their developer account. They basically copy and pasted the code and added a few bug fixes, but it had to be done in order to transfer ownership to Reddit, Inc.
Alien Blue is hands down the BEST reddit App for iOS! GREAT acquisition!
The new icon is terrible…
If a third-party Facebook or Twitter app came out with a similarly butchered logo, the developer would probably get a take-down notice. Unbelievable that reddit can’t afford a designer who can do justice to their branding.
Only just decided to start using reddit (/r/Apple) this month. This hasn’t come at a better time.
Get out while you still can!! /r/Apple is the worst.
