After first announcing and showing off new licensing plans with Pro Tools 12 in January, today the latest version of Pro Tools has arrived at last alongside the new subscription plans on Avid’s online store.
Highlights for Pro Tools 12 include a new “Avid Cloud Collaboration” feature that lets users collaborate in real-time from different locations using built-in chat and other collaboration features, and a new “Avid Marketplace” for finding talent and accessing apps, plug-ins and third-party content.
For the first time, Avid is making Pro Tools, with version 12, available through license subscriptions starting at $29.99/month. An annual update is available for $199 (the one-time price of Apple’s competitive Logic Pro X), while the annual subscription plan will go for $299. Lastly, Avid has perpetual licenses starting at $899.

I’ll stick with Logic.
This model is going to piss studios off like nobody’s business. Adobe has had some success with Creative Cloud, and Microsoft’s Office365 in the subscription-based models…but I’m just not seeing audio engineers wanting to a) pay, and b) upgrade all the time. Once you get a seriously stable audio rig, you tend to keep it running for years until you’re forced to upgrade one way or another. I was on 10.8.5 until just recently (kicking and screaming) having to upgrade to Yosemite. Please Apple, SHUN this business model! Logic Pro X is a dream DAW, and works just fine as is.
Yeah, I’ll stick with Logic. I got PT 11 for my studio to have in case clients requested it but it still has no where near the effects, loops, etc. and MIDI is not great. Logic is killer at $199!
Hurry up! amazon.com has 2 copies of PT11 for $699. Same features/performance as PT12 but $200 cheaper!
some people are calling this an april fools joke http://protoolstutorial.org/blog/pro-tools-12-goes-on-sale-april-fools-joke/
Your missing out! Pro Tools 12 is a writers dream.
