  1. I feel like you guys are a bit confused with 4K/5K support so let me try to clear it up.

To support 4K @ 60Hz, at a minimum, you need DisplayPort 1.2 which all Thunderbolt 2 Macs and Retina MacBook support. You also need GPU support, which is any dedicated GPU (Retina iMac, 2013 Mac Pro, 2013+ 15″ rMBP *note, Iris Pro vs of 15″ rMBP doesn’t count) *or* Iris 6000 and up (2015 rMBP, 2015 MBA).

To support 5K @ 60Hz, you need either dual DisplayPort 1.2 ports (2013 Mac Pro, Retina iMac, oddly laptops don’t make the cut). or DisplayPort 1.3 coming with Thunderbolt 3, which is Skylake (Intel says Q4 2015, I say Q1-Q2 2016 so Broadwell isn’t a total flop).

USB Type-C in 2015 MacBook is only DisplayPort 1.2 and chip is only Broadwell, so it will never see 5K support. If anything, since we know 15″ MacBook Pro sells is far larger numbers than Mac Pro, Apple’s likely waiting under TB3 to update it so it’s a single-cable solution, I don’t expect the 13″ MBP with integrated graphics to actually be able to handle it, 5K is a LOT of pixels to draw.

Thanks for clarification. But yeah, basically a 5K display working across all Apple computers is a long way away. I guess that was the main point of my end of the rant haha. Thanks for listening and the comment! :)
