Nearly a year after Touch ID support for third-party developers was announced for iOS 8, major bank Chase has added fingerprint login support to its iPhone application. When you launch the new app update for the first time, the application will ask you if you’d like to turn on Touch ID support. The bank warns that some functions will still require you to enter your password, but this upgrade should still make the app quicker to navigate for many use cases. The app has also gained complete support for the iPhone 6 Plus. Chase’s iPad app, which is still on a pre-iOS 7 design, has not been updated to support Touch ID on the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. Other banking apps like PayPal and American Express already have Touch ID support, with the former gaining the functionality just last week and the latter being upgraded last holiday season.

To fully explain how comical this is, it’s maybe 10-20 lines of code to fully implement this feature? Maybe 1 hour of dev work to create a dummy app to test the feature, 4 hours to integrate into the app, and 1-2 weeks for a good QA cycle?
I understand their hesitation, they do *not* want accidental access into a bank account, but that does *not* take 51 weeks to figure out.
They took forever to implement Touch ID. Basically an entire year. Every single one of my banks has had Touch ID integrated for some time now. I don’t understand why of all the banks, one of the biggest had the thoughest time adding Touch ID. I’m glad it finally happened.
Amex did it a few months ago and I love it, Penfed about two weeks ago and now Chase… slowly but surely
When I studied this a few months ago even USAA didn’t have touchID support (it does now). The only provider that had it then was Discover Bank (by Novus, same as Discover Card).
What other banks (I mean checking account with banking features like payment sends) other than Chase and Discover offer TouchID support?
This is one of the instance where you should use “finally” in the title.
And you think they have professionell app developers. But if you want to apply, oh , you better have a 5+ years of experience in development and already worked at 3 different companies, and then, you will be qualified to update a single tiny feature within 1 year.
How about apps that do NOT support the iPhone 6 and 6 plus, big names like Citi and EBay? Kind of ridiculous..
I meant the new screen sizes, still typing in that big ugly keyboard
Hallelujah!
Finally. Works just fine.
My guess as to why this took so long is that Chase wanted to let TouchID run in the wild for a bit before they entrusted their customer’s security to it. Between the release of the 5S and this app update, there have been many other updates to the Chase app. I’m sure that rather than being an oversight or development issue, this was a careful decision on Chase’s part.
The implementation is not the best. If your session times out after you’ve left the app without signing out, the next time you open the app, touch ID will not be available. You’ll need to switch away and switch back to get the prompt to come up.
And the Wells Fargo sad excuse for an app (really a web wrapper) still doesn’t support Touch ID.
So touch id on the Chase app allows me to log in and see my balances, but I have to input my password to transfer funds or use quickpay. How is this different then the quick view balance feature that allows you to see your balance from the login screen sometime ago?
Why can’t I get the Chase Bank Touch ID to work? I enabled it on my iPhone 6. When I start the Chase app, I get the screen that says the following options:
Touch ID for “Chase”
Log on to view your accounts
Enter Passcode
Cancel
I put my thumb on the button to utilize the Touch ID, and the options (above) disappear, and I have to type in my login and password anyway. Touch ID has already been enabled on my iPhone for several months. What do I have to do to have the app open once I utilize Touch ID?
i had this problem too. Go to settings within the app and click the tab to turn touch id on and voila!
I appreciate your reply, but I went to settings within the app, and Touch ID was already turned on. What now?
This is why big banks suck! My bank, Simple, had Touch ID integrated within the week or something like that.
Big banks do NOT care about their customers or the customer experience. I wrote more about it here in my blog post if anyone cares. You may not… But anyway… https://medium.com/@jessenichols/online-banking-is-better-72e25e269c7f

While that Pop up is on
“Touch ID for Chase”
“Cancel”
Don’t press cancel. Now is the time to use your finger to ID. And it should open up. I kept pressing cancel and trying to use the Touch ID and it didn’t work even though everything was on. Just don’t press cancel when the little pop up comes up.
I followed your instructions, but it still wouldn’t allow Touch ID logon. I finally deleted and re-downloaded the Chase app, and it had me approve a couple of things, and then the Touch ID logon finally worked.
Thanks to all for you input. I appreciate your assistance.
Wells Fargo still hasn’t implemented this. When I asked on their Facebook page when they were going to quit passing off a web wrapped app and get a real app with touch id support they said next year sometime. So lame.
