In addition to iOS 8.4, Apple has now publicly released OS X 10.10.4 to all users. The point update focuses on security and stability improvements with a fix for notable networking issues with OS X Yosemite as well as fixes for Mail, improvements to Photos migration from iPhoto and Aperture, and more. Apple first began testing the update to the Mac with developers in late April.
The new OS X version is available through the Mac App Store. Developers and public beta testers running preview releases of OS X 10.10.4 can find the update through the Updates tab as well.

I hope the mail fix also solves that not showing messages bug that occured in 10.10.4 beta 14E36b …
No. It doesn’t. :(
I’ve never had this problem. I don’t think it’s a Yosemite bug specifically. You didn’t mention what email service you use, or how large your mailbox is. Here are some things to try. Select your Inbox(es) and then use the Mailbox menu and select rebuild. You’ll see everything disappear, and then it download again from the server. Another thing to try… and this is more extreme is to delete the envelope index files. Quit mail first and then go to ~/library/mail/v2/maildata. There you will see three files: Envelope Index, Envelope Index-shm, Envelope Index-wal. Relaunch Mail. This will completely rebuild everything. Depending on the size of your mailbox(es), this could take a while. Part of my business is email hosting, and I see this kind of problem happen sometimes, especially with users who have large mailboxes, and/or multiple accounts.
I think you’re right this isn’t a Yosemite specific bug… Today, everything was fine, but I’ll check your fixes next time it happens… Thank you so much!
seems to work after deleting the envelope files, but I have to do it all the time, otherwise it is the same non working mail that comes up
What bug is that? I haven’t seen it. I’ve been running every beta of 10.10.4.
When I open mail, no mails are displayed in none of my accounts or folders. Just nothing. Mail doesn’t quit anymore, except force quit. I have to restart mail 4 or 5 times, then the messages appear… :(
I’ve seen it a few times myself since updating to 10.10.4
I was able to solve a Mail problem after performing the update today. Upon the 10.10.4 update reboot, my Google mail (Google Apps for Business) email account would not download any new mail. The solution was to go into Mail prefs, choose the Google account, and then Advanced settings — then check “Automatically detect and maintain account settings.”
As soon as I did that, all my mail that had come to my address since the update then downloaded.
I’d venture to say you mean “addition”, rather than “addiction”… though I could be wrong!
Going with a Dr. Dre and The Chronic theme here, thnx! Fixed. :)
I hope it finally allows me to use handoff
Seriously! One of the coolest features they’ve introduced and yet one of the buggiest I’ve encountered from Apple in years. Wildly inconsistent – it’s great when it works, but don’t bother relying on it.
AirPlay is the same, so often won’t work. Then it does.
Combo update link?

I’d like to note that Apple claims on their website that iTunes is available, but it’s not. The one on the site is still 12.1.2.
Exactly what I’m trying to figure out. I’d rather plug into my Mac to listen to Beats 1 rather than my iPad.
Uhm, no Apple Music Support?
It didn’t update iTunes. That update isn’t out just yet. I found it quite confusing too.
Does it come with an iTunes update or what?
Yes. Look for a iTunes 12.2 update later today. Was supposed to be released at 11 AM EST.
OK thank you. I was wondering why I wasn’t seeing the same stuff on my computer.
I still haven’t received the update :(
Great. Attempted to download OS X 10.10.4, download froze, reset wifi, now the App Store app is frozen, reboot, now every attempt to run the App Store spins the fans to 100% and the spinner just runs forever and won’t actually finish loading the app. Any suggestions?
Wait until the traffic jam slows on the Apple servers so you can redownload and try again? They are like getting slammed right now.
I’m seeing this issue as well. Were you able to find a work-around?
Left the computer running overnight while connected to wifi, but without loading the App Store app. Sometime in the night a background process finished the update. So now everything is fine.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had this problem either, the Mac App Store can be unstable at times and will hang the entire system just checking for updates. Hopefully it won’t be as much of a problem on El Capitan.
Same issue here too, it’s not just you. I’ll try leaving it and see what happens but I’ve already done that a few times, though never for more than 5 hours or so
One thing not mentioned here that did make it to 10.10.4 for those of us with third-party SSD drives, the Terminal command “trimforce” :D
http://9to5mac.com/2015/06/12/os-x-ssd-trim-support-el-capitan/
Use “sudo trimforce enable” in a Terminal window to turn it on!!!
Bye bye Trim Enabler! :D
Best part of the update! :)
Weird that iTunes for OS X doesn’t have any of the new Apple Music features, like the Beats 1 radio. I guess that’s only for iPhone users?
After the 10.10.4 Update loaded, I restarted manually, but 10.10.4 did not install. Now I’m Stuck with the frozen App Store. Coming From 10.10.4 Public Beta 14E36b.
Same problem here….
ok, solved this by force quitting AppStore, deleting com.apple.appstore, starting AppStore again (beach ball comes back) and killing process “softwareupdated” via Activity Monitor. AppStore seems to work normal again, hitting the restart button next to the 10.10.4 Update in: 3… 2… 1…
P.S.: to get to the com.apple.appstore folder, open terminal and enter “open $TMPDIR../C/” (without the “”)… Restarting in 10 sek… wish me luck!
Done :)
Followed your instructions but had the same problem :/
Hm…. Did you empty the trash after deleting com.apple.appstore? And you have to restart AppStore after that (force quit and reopen it). The AppStore has to be open when you kill softwareupdated process… I hope this helps!
Used the download fil from the apple site. Thank you very much
Glad you fixed this… ;)
Thank you! That worked perfectly!
They FINALLY fixed the issue where a website could have dialog prompts that effectively froze up safari requiring a force quit of safari.app. That has been so frustrating.
Anyone using Photos app with external media. Anyone get the “Preparing Library” loading screen every time they open the app? I don’t think this was the “improving Photos importing” they intended.
I’ve only seen the screen once.
Does anyone else have bluetooth issues after the update. My mouse kinda works but no scrolling and the system preferences states the mouse is not connected even though it moves the cursor and allows me to click on stuff.
yes. but, i have been having bluetooth problems since 10.10.2. amazingly, it is worse with 10.10.4! when i stream bluetooth audio it knocks my keyboard offline. sometimes, i could play music for an hour. with 10.10.4 it does it within 30 seconds. totally absurd.
Bluetooth issues here too. I have an Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad, and both work (mostly) but system info says bluetooth is off. The trackpad is taking its settings from the mouse settings. The system “works” but I have no trackpad-specific functionality, which as it happens, I use a lot. SMC reset didn’t help, using the combo updater didn’t help.
Apple Mail settings for Gmail are f*** up again after update. Cannot get any connection to Gmail whatsoever – says smtp server offline. Connection Doctor recommends to verify username & password, which I have done.
What I noticed is that the password field in smtp settings always is empty when I get back to that dialog.
I upgraded to 10.10.4 with no problems except that the “fix” to email rendered my main email account dead so I cannot receive any emails on that account though I can send, I can use a secondary gmai account with no problem. Tried rebuild with no success. Any suggestions?
Try enabling the setting (in the Mail app) “Automatically detect and maintain account settings” in Preferences > Accounts > [account giving the error] > Advanced. Had the same problem and this worked for me. You may have to restart Mail to have this fully take effect.
Perfect! Thank you. And apologies from me – I had noticed this tip earlier in the thread and had forgotten about it until you reminded me.
Thank you!! I read on another forum (before the 10.10.4 update) that the “automatically detect…” box should be unchecked. This is getting exhausting. But Gmail is working in the Mail app now—at least, until the update.
The update is not showing up in my app store update tab
Wifi is not fixed. Some time, the network stop working. I have to turn wifi off and on again in order to use network.
My corporate emails over a VPN have stopped working since the update..? Any ideas..?
I installed this horrible update now youtube doesn’t work unless i use data on my phone Please help
My problem is after my iPhoto library migrated over, I can’t play my gopro videos anymore. It keeps saying the file can’t be found. Took my Mac to the apple store and they couldn’t figure it out either. Now I am trying to backup all nearly 13000 photos and videos and wipe the computer clean and downgrade back to mavericks. I am extremely frustrated by this and for some reason even trying to copy photos to the sea gate is not working properly either.
I just got a new iMac 10.10.4 OS X and I want to see all my emails that I can now see on my old PowerBook G4. AOL email is good and I can see all my emails. However, my Suddenlink emails only show 111 emails FROM 2011. I have spent 20 hours on the phone with applecare and suddenlink. Applecare says, since I can see all my emails on my old computer, but not on my new iMac, it must be a computer problem as opposed to a suddenlink problem. But, we can’t figure it out. Any suggestions?
