Apple issues new tvOS build to developers, iOS 9.1 beta 4 to devs and public testers

Apple has pushed out the fourth beta version of the iOS 9.1 mobile OS update. The software is designed to fix bugs that appeared in the public build of 9.1 and introduce a few new features, like a larger emoji set and an option to disable contact photos in the Messages app.

The most recent beta introduced four new wallpapers. The latest build is available to both developers and public beta testers.

A new build of tvOS has also been published for users on pre-release hardware.

Both operating systems can be downloaded from their respective over-the-air update screens or through the Apple Developer Center.

We’ll keep this post updated with any new changes we find.

    1.6GB DL here on a 6+

  2. guessing this is a pretty big update with the public build being 1.6GB in my iPhone 6 Plus

9.0, 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 are so slow, makes me hate my 6 plus.
I really hope 9.1 fixes this

    • 9.1 has been worse so far on 6+ I have. We will see if beta 4 is any better but my guess is you can expect it to get slower.

Clean install? So far, majority of beta testers are reporting big improvements with iOS 9.1 on almost all devices. I’m surprised you’re not seeing them.

On my 5s I got a good battery life boost. My only noticeable issue so far has been a quick black out between changing apps

Try ‘Reset All Setting’. My 6+ was also slow even after upgrading to 9.1. But Reset All Settings really seemed to help, although it is still not as smooth as I did like, but way better than before.

They are not slow in any way shape or form …

None of notifications for the apps on my 5s working properly since updating to iOS 9. For example whatsapp or viber sometime work and sometime don’t. Is this issue solved in 9.1?

It maybe you turned on “Do not disturb” or the apps may not be compatible, update your apps! (My opinion)

iOS 9.1 Beta 4 is working great. My iPad mini 2 is much faster and doesn’t stutter as much. Didn’t get a chance to see the size of the update, it downloaded overnight and prompted to update in the morning.

iOS 9.1 beta has wifi calling to other devices enabled on sprint.

  9. I’m updating my 6 Plus to public beta 4 now. 9.1 has been decent, a little stuttering every now and then. When is wifi calling coming to Verizon?

    • Kevin  - 9 years ago

I read somewhere that Verizon thinks that their customers don’t need it because their coverage reaches so far. They did say it would be out late 2015 but who knows.

  10. I think iOS 9.1 won’t be out till November when the iPad pro comes out. Upvote if you agree

In 9.1, has anyone noticed if the bug that eliminated the double tone that indicates Siri is “listening” has been squashed? It works when connected by cable or bluetooth to my car, but not with normal hand-held use.

    • Lee Mays-Ford - 9 years ago

I don’t think it was a bug. I read somewhere that the tone would only sound on hands free so you know but not if you’re holding the phone as it displays the wavy bar.

      • Stephen Weil - 9 years ago

Thanks for the follow-up. IMHO, that was a stupid move. Siri doesn’t start up reliably enough to do without the tone. If it worked 100% of the time and was immediately available, that would be a different story.

iPad Air 2 works much better each beta release. first two were the worst, many programs did not work or crashed. I am at 100% at this point for all my apps.

As a beta sw tester since the Beginning of June, I if found 30 bugs, some small, some large. I reported everyone with documentation and guess what none have been corrected. Fullscreen video is still not possible on their flag model iPad Air 2 in podcast, tons of complains all over the net, but shit happens aka zip, nothing, never mind.

I suggests a massmutual class law suit as a bug/error/fault like that is ridiculous. I bought my iPad in May, so I got less than a few weeks with fullscreen videos. Calling Apple CS is no solution, they claim they have one, but unfortunately it doesn’t work. Telling you to wait for an update. Since June I have received nine sw updates. AirPlay doesn’t work, works flawlessly in 8.4. Sound levels goes up and down depending on receiving messages of any kind, so one message lowers it to an inaudible level, the next turns it back on to a dangerous level and this goes on and on.

I feel cheated big time. I bought an expensive tablet just to get 2/3 of my screen full of white bars in the top and bottom when playing any podcast.

When apple gets faced with criticism they just delete any post you make on their blogs. It’s shameless and pathetic. Tim Cook I want my money back and that’s now. No more Apple products in this family.

Owner of Mac book air, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6+, iPad mini 2, iPhone 1. I spend a lot of money during my time with Apple, but their attitudes towards their old customers with last years products seems extremely low.
