Apple details CarPlay partners by year and model on new webpage

In addition to unveiling iOS 9.3 with new CarPlay features, Apple today has launched a new webpage detailing all of the cars in which its infotainment system is available. On the page, Apple touts that CarPlay is or will soon be available in more than 100 different vehicles models. The list consists of 2016 and 2017 car models only, from a variety of different companies.

The full list of manufacturers featured on the page includes Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Ferrari, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Opel, Porsche, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Suzuki, Volkswagen, and Volvo. Apple’s list excludes aftermarket options for installing CarPlay, such as Pioneer and JBL head units.

iOS 9.3 saw the introduction of a couple of new CarPlay features. CarPlay can finally take advantage of the “New” and “For You” Apple Music features, introduced last summer alongside Apple Music. There’s also a new “Nearby” feature in Maps that shows the closest gas, parking, restaurants, coffee, and more.

CES 2016 saw the announcement that Ford would be integrating CarPlay at long last, and that announcement is reflected on Apple’s webpage. What’s not reflected, however, is that Ford will make a software update available to 2016 car models that will add support for CarPlay.

Apple’s new detailed list of CarPlay manufacturers is available here. Apple’s launch of CarPlay-dedicated list of manufacturers could reflect that the company finally feels as if its infotainment system is available in an apt number of vehicles.

Did they also fix the bug where podcasts stop playing if you receive any notification on your phone?

it sucks Jaguar still insist on delaying Carplay

Sucks that Mazda is still not on this list despite them bragging that their infotainment system is forward capable since the 2014 model. Wake up Mazda!! When it is time to trade-in my car, I might switch manufacturers because of this unreasonable delay.

Have they got rid of the wasted space on the iPad Pro home screen? Better yet, have the apps like mail been tinkered with?!

Wish auto companies would hurry up make CarPlay and Android Auto as option on all models. This list is ridiculously small considering iOS in the Car(CarPlay) was announced in 2013 at WWDC. Also CarPlay and Android Auto is based on 2010’s iPod Out feature.

Including both a CarPlay and Android Auto as a standard option keeps a 600-$800 smartphone from dictating your $40,000 auto purchase.

CarPlay always struck me as something that is against the core Apple ideology of building end-to-end consumer products. Here, Apple is forced to play by auto manufactures red tape and delays. Also CarPlay is built into a dashboard with its own and stock interfaces competing against each other in use. That is confusing, and very unlike Apple simple interface solutions. I am not surprised they want to build their own car

Except for toyota who sells the most cars in the USA. COME ON TOYOTA!

So what happened to BMW support of Carplay? Was using a knob to control it to difficult to negotiate with Apple? I can’t say I’m surprised seeing how stubborn both companies can be.

BMW was the first to support iPod out in 2011, then when iOs In the Car was announced they said they had no plans to support it and then later said they would support Carplay. I don’t think BMW wants to supplement or give up iDrive and Connected on BMW and MINI. They should support iDrive, CarPlay and Android Auto giving the customers the choice to buy an auto without worrying if its smart phone is supported with the cars head unit.

No Toyota, who takes 3/4 of the electric drive market from what asymco recently showed. Basically hybrids and they’re hold outs. Makes sense as Apple could hurt their sales alot more than Tesla’s (who can’t make enough cars currently).

“Every major manufacturer”? Really Apple? So Toyota, Renault, and Nissan aren’t major manufacturers?

I’d like to buy an EV with CarPlay but I’ve yet to find one in the UK. They don’t exist.

CarPlay is nice. Just needs some new software updates to watch stuff on it via Airplay.
