NowPlaying for Apple TV encourages you to listen to entire albums

The streaming era has certainly changed the way we listen to music. There are curated playlists, algorithms and many other influences. With this in mind, the developers behind NowPlaying are now launching an Apple TV app, which aims to encourage people to listen to entire albums like in the old days.

NowPlaying focuses on album discovery

NowPlaying isn’t exactly a new app. It helps you discover the stories behind the songs and albums you’re listening to. You can see at a glance when the album was released, its ranking in the charts, and even how many versions of the album have been released. All in a super-pleasant interface.

“While playlists and algorithms have their place, they’ve fundamentally changed how we consume music. NowPlaying for Apple TV takes a bold stance by focusing exclusively on albums, encouraging listeners to explore music as complete works rather than isolated tracks,” the developers say. “This approach isn’t just about nostalgia – it’s about experiencing music the way artists intended.”

The Apple TV app consists around three key experiences. With Today’s Album, you can discover a new album hand-picked by music enthusiasts, featuring classics, new releases, or influential works. Random Discoveries suggests an album based on listening history, Rolling Stone’s Top 500 list, or previously featured albums. And of course, Currently Playing shows you all the details about an album playing on your Apple TV.

Users can also search for albums right in NowPlaying without having to leave the app. The app connects with Apple Music, enabling users to save or play albums directly within NowPlaying.

Try it now

You can try NowPlaying for free. However, you can choose either to pay a subscription or to buy a one-time license in order to remove ads. The app is available on the App Store and works with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.
