Apple this week has shared the framework for Turi Create on GitHub. This framework, Apple says, should make it easier for developers to build machine learning models.
Apple is known for its secrecy when it comes to ongoing product development, but the company is operating a little different with its efforts around artificial intelligence and machine learning. Apple’s director of machine learning, Carlos Guestrin, openly discussed Apple’s plans to grow its engineering presence in Seattle in a new GeekWire interview.
Apple has successfully acquired Turi, a machine learning company based out of Seattle. According to sources in discussion with GeekWire, Turi’s team will be able to remain in the Seattle region as Apple builds out the technologies further. Turi’s original product, GraphLab, was developed as an open source project for machine learning tasks, but eventually moved into data-mining tasks as it out-performed competitors.
