Sparrow for iOS updated: Push coming with or without Apple in upcoming version

The Sparrow team just announced version 1.1 for “Sparrow for iPhone” on its official blog, while also revealing Push API is coming to the iOS app’s next version:

Thanks to your amazing support, we feel confident that Apple might revise its position on the Push API. We’ll submit a first version of Sparrow 1.2 including it. This might delay Sparrow 1.2 validation but we’re already working with some partners to include Push in future versions of Sparrow without needing Apple clearance.

Push is coming. With or without Apple.

The team also said version 1.2 will include localization in nine languages, landscape mode when composing, and swipe up and down gestures to move between messages.

Meanwhile, Sparrow 1.1, the latest version, now features a built-in web browser, send and archive functionality, empty trash and spam options, dock badge preferences by account, show/hide labels and folders, and a choice to include attachments in forwarded messages.

The free update also boasts a slue of bug fixes, such as compatibility with mail servers and improved mail servers detection, swipe gesture to add custom accounts, fixed account list scrolling for users with more than 10 accounts, and video attachments are now available in fullscreen.

The “Sparrow for the iPhone” app is $2.99 at the App Store. It currently has a 4.5-star rating based on 2,675 reviews as of press time.

Oh, and the Sparrow Team is even working on its Mac counterpart:

We’re currently working on Sparrow 1.6 for Mac. This next release will include a lot of bug fixes and improvements. The main new feature will be POP support. Finally, you’ll be able to plug your old Hotmail or Live account in Sparrow.

The “Sparrow” app is $9.99 at the Mac App Store. A free ad-supported version is also available.
