Apple announced its plan last year to spend roughly $900 million opening 40 new retail locations in 2012. In March, we told you new stores were coming to Germany, Spain, Australia, and France‘s Burgundy wine region, and several reports this week confirmed a handful of new locations for the United Kingdom, France, and Canada. Ten of the 40 stores Apple planned for 2012 will début in the U.S., and recent reports indicated two of those U.S. stores will be located in California and Salt Lake City… The latest report from ifoAppleStore claimed Apple has taken up the remainder of a 15-year lease (10 years remaining) for a new store in the Drake Circus Shopping Centre in Plymouth, U.K. The news comes from employees of a Zara retail store, which is the current tenant of the 21,045 square-foot space. A timeline for Apple moving in is still unknown, but ifosAppleStore claimed Zara is moving out at the end of the month.

ifoAppleStore also reported yesterday Apple’s plans for a new retail location at Market Mall in Calgary, Alberta. It is smaller than the new U.K. store—and many others—at just 5,448 square-feet. However, Apple plans to move to a new space within the mall that will offer a curved 77-foot wide storefront and 7, 287 square-feet within a year of moving in. The store is expected to open sometime this year.

As for the U.S. locations: A report from ABC4/KTVX (video above) claimed Apple would open a new store at City Creek Center mall in Salt Lake City. The report said Apple was offered a significant incentive to open up shop, and one source claimed that could include up to “five years of occupancy, rent-free.” Apple is also planning a future store for Bakersfield, Calif., in 2012. Finally, we have confirmation of a new location in the Quatre Temps shopping center at La Défense in France. The store was previously rumored, but MacGeneration recently posted the image above that shows the inside of the store under construction. The store is expected to open in June.
