Alleged iPhone 6 cases reflect rumored design changes, repositioned power button

Etui-Silicone-iPhone-6-06

We’re still months away from Apple’s expected announcement of the iPhone 6, but ambitious manufactures are already designing accessories based on current rumors. Additional silicon cases rumored to fit the iPhone 6 were recently published on NoWhereElse and provide a closer look at some of the device’s possible design changes.

The case pictured above has slightly rounded edges, similar to the 5th generation iPod touch or iPhone 5c, and are consistent with previous rumors. As we’ve seen in recent accessory leaks, the case also features a repositioned power button and thin oblong volume buttons similar to an iPod touch. It has also been rumored that Apple’s iPhone 6 will feature a larger 4.7-inch display.

As noted by NoWhereElse, the source of these images has not been proven to be trustworthy. This may be a case makers attempt to get ahead of the game and manufacture a product based on rumored specifications. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen similar tactics, but most of the other rumors and leaks we’ve seen up to this point do line up with the design changes here.

I can’t wait for the bigger screen iPhone. If anyone knows how to hack iOS 7 on a HTC one, hit me up. The iPhone 8 release date is 5 months away.

    • tonyadams669 - 10 years ago

There is no such a thing to hack iOS 7 on a HTC one, The firmware will not be capable to run those specification that’s based on HTC. But you can find several themes that make your HTC look more like iOS 7

“the source of these images has not been proven to be trustworthy” but let’s post it anyway because???

    • It’s rumored! read the title first

    • shm1ck83 - 10 years ago

If they didn’t post any rumours and only hard facts, there would be no visitors to this site.

We all need to do something between iPhone launches.

      • rogifan - 10 years ago

But why should we be interested in a source that isn’t trustworthy?

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Just because they haven’t been proven to be trustworthy, doesn’t mean they aren’t. It means they don’t know whether they are or not (lack of evidence). These are called rumors, and if the source of the rumor isn’t proven to be untrustworthy, you roll with it.

The only two changes I want to see come out of Apple is innovation by empowering the user to change the graphical interface or a return to the graphics which include realistic textures. Line art just makes me sick.

    • They will never give users those options…
“Realistic textures” make me feel embarrassed. iOS7 is a great step in the right direction.

      • roberthildenbrand - 10 years ago

Line art makes me embarrassed, the colors they have chosen and the bright flash of the phone makes me embarrassed. So start demanding more control, force Apple to comply. They are a business, they answer to two groups of people. The investor and the costumer.

      • I totally agree. I don’t want to sound mean, but anyone craving those awful textures really has no taste – Jony has quite rightly eradicated that stuff.

      • I think those people making costumes are a small group and shouldn’t influence apple’s design choices.

      • So you are after faux textures and a dull flash? I think you are on a different page to most…

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Paul and Chris, great comments, best I’ve seen on this site. Thank you hahaha.

      • roberthildenbrand - 10 years ago

“faux textures and a dull flash”

I am after realistic textures, and I don’t like flash, specifically when I am in the dark. More over, what I want is for Apple to empower the user to choose. If done through their App store, they can maintain their high level of safety and security that the iOS provides and provide maximum user satisfaction.

At the end of the day, it is about drawing in buyers. To a business, nothing but profit should matter. You can keep your line art, your flat textureless illustrator drawings and boring phone. Give people like me the ability to have leather bound calenders and yellow, lined note pads. Give us the ability to add in our own textures, empower the user to make their phone their own.

If done through the app store, all parties win.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Robert you’re semi-right about one thing, it is a business. I say you’re semi-right because I truly believe the people at Apple (at least some of them; especially Ive) are there to make what they believe to be the best products the can possibly produce (given the obvious restraints of being in a business, and having to sell them at a certain price point). Given that it is a business, and they want to make the absolute best products they can, they don’t want users to have the freedom to taint their beautiful devices, and designs with garbage. From a business standpoint, it is far better to not have a prospective customer see someone’s awful settings. For example, when someone jailbreaks their device and puts one of those themes they think is so great, but is truly one of the worst things ever seen by a human, on their device, and then a potential customer sees that, they’ll immediately be turned away from Apple products.

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

What you’re describing is in no way innovation, can’t believe you typed that actually. What you’re describing is called stupidity. You don’t give a retarded person keys to a car, or a paintbrush; in other words, you don’t allow people that can’t make good decisions about design or settings, make those embarrassing decisions.

I’ve seen what people do with jail breaking themes. It honestly makes me feel so incredibly sad for them, their taste is that bad. It’s literally cringe-worthy.

iOS 7 is so far and beyond better than iOS 6, it’s insane. Every time I see iOS 6 now, I think of an old gameboy, it looks that dated and awful.

      • roberthildenbrand - 10 years ago

So because you do not like something, everyone else must like what you like? That is arrogance and the reason why Apple will not innovate. Innovation requires thinking outside the box and your box is made of five meter thick unobtainium.

      • roberthildenbrand - 10 years ago

What you describe is vanity and that is the enemy to profit. I have not met a real live person (except for one who is a Apple fanatic) who likes the graphical interface for the new iOS 7. Not a single person.

    • Joel Henson - 10 years ago

Wait, Apple is a business? I’m so confused as to what they’ve been doing so far…

    • Tallest Skil - 10 years ago

      >>innovation by

      Not innovation.

      >> user to change the graphical interface

This won’t be happening; you know this.

      >>the graphics which include realistic textures

You know, I’m totally for this. iOS 6 had become, in ways, too poofy. iOS 7 killed all of it off, good and bad. But I want to see Linen again. Linen and Cotton. Sure, kick up the thread count to 500 and make the texture FAR less pronounced. And yes, yellow leather was just about the gaudiest thing imaginable, but tight speck brown leather isn’t. Bring some of that.

    • John Smith - 10 years ago

I’m with roberthildenbrand on this one.

Personally I don’t need fake leather stitching but IOS 7 is much worse. Obviously it’s just personal taste but robert is spot with the comment that the ability to pick themes is the answer – if people want plain white for everything they can set that.

Oosmoothies – I suspect the childish colours in IOS7 are deliberate – apple wanted to target the young child market and did so with colour schemes that would appeal. Seems to have worked: high spots in the app store are almost totally children’s games now. It’s selling iPad minis to the kids, but I think apple needs to be careful they don’t lose the adult/corporate market. (Take a look at the apple store iPad pages and see how few of the photos emphasise plain white and jelly bean colours – that’s their own advertising) Theme choice could answer the dilemma.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

No, they do what looks good to them. They aren’t targeting anyone but everyone with iOS. The iPhone 5C is the only think you could consider being more targeted toward children. Also, the top games on the App Store have been and always will be childish casual games which become popular for a short time and then fade away. Angry birds is extremely childish, I assume you mean that? Games at the top are casual and will fade after a short time, just to mention a few… Draw something, words with friends, flappy birds clones are now fading. It’s simply the way it works.

      • John Smith - 10 years ago

Oosmoothies – Yes, 5C is quite childish. But I’m talking about that colour scheme in IOS7.

I’m not saying IOS games are getting more childish. It’s the dominance of games in the top sellers. Have a look at the OSX app store, only 1 of the top ten is a game. On the IOS app store it’s all 10. It wasn’t always like that. IOS is definitely moving from the corporate market to the kiddie market. I see that as a deliberate strategy by apple.

Web sites post schematics, mock-ups of rumored iPhone design.

Case makers read web sites, make a case based on reported design.

Web sites post case design as further evidence of rumored iPhone design.

The leaks are really flowing this week. Don’t be surprised to see the actual phone quite soon.

  6. Max999 (@max_ung) - 10 years ago

owh, looks like iPhone has a new button on its right side…

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Repositioned power button due to increased size of the device. For people with lack of reasoning (it’s easier to reach with one-handed use).

      • Tallest Skil - 10 years ago

…due to increased size of the device. For people with lack of reasoning…

I’m samsunging this line. That’s great, man.

  7. zubeirg87 - 10 years ago

It makes me sick that Apple is following the path of android to such an extent as to put the power button on the side. This is disgusting. Why do they need to make a jumbo size phone anyway?! What happened to their right-size, one-handed usage principle. Apple used to be the one that leads the way, not follow. Looks that they are starting to lose it. Makes me sad!

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

They are a business before all else. Research suggests that consumers are wanting larger screen sizes, thus they must comply, or be left behind. They want to make the absolute best products, but they also want to make their customers happy, and to do that means they must increase the screen size. Nothing about making screen size bigger means you are following or copying, and nothing about moving the power button to the side means you are following or copying. Those are blatantly obvious things, that in no-way represent innovation… It’s like saying they added a volume button (assuming they didn’t have one), it’s just obvious, and no one can claim that they thought of it first or that it is in some way special. Unless they themselves are special (yeah, that kind of special).

The people who say Apple is copying need to stay off the internet so their idiocy doesn’t go beyond their breath.

      • zubeirg87 - 10 years ago

I’m not against bigger screen size. But i think everybody was hoping Apple will succeed in keeping the overall size of the phone as small as possible whilst increasing the size of the display. That would have been possible only by making the bezels as small as possible. Possibly it would have also implied the home button staying where it is and maintain one-handed usability. But it doesn’t look it will be that way.
This is why I’m feeling Apple is not innovating that much and just making what everybody else is making, nothing much more special.

      • Tallest Skil - 10 years ago

        >>Research suggests that consumers are wanting larger screen sizes,

No, it isn’t, in the slightest, anywhere, in any capacity.

Please actually look at what is being sold.

        >>They want to make the absolute best products, but they also want to make their customers happy,

And making this product 1. is not the best and 2. will not make customers happy.

        >>It’s like saying they added a volume button (assuming they didn’t have one), it’s just obvious

Except when Apple put the ringer/vibrate switch on the first-gen iPhone, people were mystified that they hadn’t thought of it before. I don’t imagine the iPhone was the first to have one, but it was certainly the last not to.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Tallest, did you read anything from the latest Apple vs. Samsung trial? There was some document that was stating or showing how the growth was slowing or stopping for everything except the larger screen sizes. This is likely due to a multitude of reasons I’m unaware of but I’m guessing the < 4.5" has become very saturated and everyone has them. Either way, Apple isn't making larger screen sizes for no reason, that's obvious. They do plenty of research none of us are aware of. Sure the highest sales have been and may likely remain the < 4.5" sizes, but that doesn't mean there isn't huge growth to be had in the larger sizes.

As for your second comment, I'm not sure what you mean. If you're referring to whether or not people want bigger iphone screens then I assure you they do. However, I think Apple is smart enough to know that they need to keep 4" unless the 4.7" doesn't add much of a physical increase to the size of the device, at all. There may very well be a 4", 4.7" and 5.5" iPhone 6, who knows?

  8. John Clabaugh - 10 years ago

    No more mute switch then?

  9. Does ANYONE like that wave design on the back of any iPhone case? I’ve seen it for a few years on previous-generation iPhone cases and always thought it was downright ugly..

  10. Kristopher McLachlan - 10 years ago

If the 4.7″ rumors are true. If it is truly branded as an iPhone. I will be interested to see how Apple addresses the aspect ratio in order to limit fragmentation issues. App developers would then have to program for 3 different screen sizes for the iPhone alone (4S, 5 and now 6). Right?

  11. pdoobs (@pdoobs) - 10 years ago

if the power button is also now works as camera button, when the app is open i’m cool with it. i hardly ever use the power button for anything but turning the screen off. i still don’t see the point of this though since an iphone can be “woken up” with the home key which most new android phones lack.

    • That just sounds bad. I wouldn’t want to take a picture every time I tried to lock my phone with the camera open… That would require that I press the home button then the lock button.
