Apple: How to fix Yosemite Public Beta code if it says already been redeemed

Earlier today Apple opened up its public beta program for the upcoming OS X Yosemite release allowing the public to download the beta build from the Mac App Store. Those who signed up for the program received a code through Apple’s Beta Program website, but a number of users reported experiencing an error that said their code had already been redeemed. If you’re still having trouble, here’s the fix from Apple: Refresh the beta program redemption page when signed in to generate a new code (here). That’s it. The new code should work when entered into the Mac App Store.

Apple doesn’t plan to update the public beta build of the OS as much as the version available in its Developer Program, but testers will be able to update to the final public release of Yosemite through the Mac App Store when it’s released this fall. Info on the release, signing up, and known issues are available here.

    we’ll be back soon

I signed up and I didn’t even receive a code at all today.

    • Dan Eaton - 10 years ago

You don’t get one, or at least I didn’t (I’m still waiting for an email saying it’s available).

If you go onto the Apple website to the Yosemite page you can get onto the Appleseed site. In there there’s a redemption page. You agree to the terms and it generates the code there and then.

Got that already redeemed message. Refresh wasn’t working, but per the advice of a poster in a forum, I found the download listed under my purchases tab in the App Store app.

Same thing is happening to me. every time it gets close to done, I get an error message then have to do it all over again

    • boardflyer (@boardflyer) - 10 years ago

Yeah, this is common issue. Tried many times today and so far no luck. Guessing they weren’t expecting so many beta users signing up.

    • Ashley Thomas - 10 years ago

Same problem…have the beta in my Purchases tab, but keep getting an error every time it is essentially done downloading! Finally got past the “We’ll be back.” screen to get the beta…10 hours later and still getting the error message though.

      • Same problem here. Keep getting error message every time I reached about 500MB. Any tips or tricks?

      • Ashley Thomas - 10 years ago

Still getting the error message throughout different stages of the download. One time it was fully downloaded and the error message came up that said failed to download! I even tried leaving the beta program and re-joined to get a new redemption code. Still happening…

    This didn’t work :(

  8. Dhruv Sahni - 10 years ago

Guys check your purchases,, I had OS X Yosemite Beta 1 there (Had used redemption coupon earlier, but couldn’t update earlier due to low storage)

  9. Mark Ferrell - 10 years ago

    it still hasn’t worked

The public beta is a lot more stable than I imagined. I partitioned the HD just in case if something crazy happens

The real fix is to use the Leave Program at the bottom of the page, then join back again. That will generate new code.

or you could check the purchases section in App Store and retry download.

      • Victor Pinho - 10 years ago

Genius. I checked several website and this is the only tip that worked.

    • huedoku - 10 years ago

      OK Thanks, that worked.
Amazing, now I recall what the issue was before — the app store just hangs out with the code the redeem box and i cant click anything and maybe it’s loading??? just hanging out there… can’t “enter” my code– it’s written in the box but theres no “ok” button or anything… how does apple get away with such crappy implementation

  12. caffeinegeniuses007 - 10 years ago

    The purchases tab!Got it …thanks

  13. Dan (@danmdan) - 10 years ago

No problem downloading/installing at midnight UK time.

  14. Got the download (without any problem) but the speed is painfully slow and unstable. LOL

  15. Neil Kunkudatharn - 10 years ago

When i try downloading my copy it says an error occurred

    • Ashish Goel - 10 years ago

It shows downloaded in purchases tab, however, not getting installed. Does not show in downloads folder.

  16. Maurice Miracle Walker - 10 years ago

I am downloading the beta, but forgot to backup my files beforehand, will this beta erase or corrupt my files?

  17. Brad Lockerbie - 10 years ago

listed in my purchases, but I can’t see how to install.

  18. After installing Yosemite and having a crash, my MBP wasn’t recognising my HDD. I had to remove it, use it as external drive to repair and even though I tried another HDD to check if the problem was with the SATA cable which was working fine, it still wasn’t being recognised, I decided to format the disk and install a copy of Mavericks. All sorted out, HDD is working fine! But now I was trying to install Yosemite again and I get that error message about the redemption code was already redeemed. I tried to refresh the page as it says here but no success: the redemption code is the same.

What can I do now? :(

  19. sydneywilson13 - 10 years ago

My code went into the redeem section of the app store but then didn’t start the download so now when I put it back in it say’s that its been used. This has happened twice.

  20. Jon Knight - 10 years ago

I followed the instructions, the app store does nothing when it tries to redeem the code, then I generate a new code, and copy paste it in the app store and get a message that redemption is not working at this time.

  21. I tried the whole lot suggestions and the only one working is:

The real fix is to use the Leave Program at the bottom of the page, then join back again. That will generate new code.

    Thank you Lotus Naga!

I got my code. Applied it in App Store. But tnothering happens. It’s not listed in Purchases. Has the 1Mil downloads limit been hit?

    • Andy Sawyer - 10 years ago

What a crock!!, have tried unrolling and then rejoining and still no download starting, and yes i have checked purchases and nothing there apart from mavericks. If the trials have finished they should take them off the site!!

    • Victor Morant - 10 years ago

      I have the same problem!

    • Bennett Rodgers - 10 years ago

Same here. I “leave the program” then rejoin the program, but when I click the Download button or the Code link, the App Store opens up and just sits there. There are no buttons to hit or boxes to check. The only interactive item on the entire page is the Camera button. If you hit the Camera button, you can’t get back to the box to enter the Redemption code again.
I even tried this. Left program, joined program, got new redemption code, did not click either link, instead went to App Store, clicked on Redeem Code, entered the code myself and hit Redeem. It gave this error, “Code redemption is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.”

      • Duffy - 10 years ago

+1 on Bennett’s situation! He has described my problem to the T and both avenues I tried to fix the problem; both with no success.

Does anyone else have a possible fix to the problem? Is something broken on Apple’s end? Starting to feel that way.

        Cheers

      • ccamwilkins - 10 years ago

Same here, there seems to be no option to download it.

      • Vrutin Rathod - 10 years ago

Its fixed now. I assume it was a problem at Apple end.

    • Eric Isaac - 10 years ago

It appears that Apple has taken down the beta 3 for some reason. I have the item showing up in my purchases but the img icon is missing/broken. when i tried to resume it says its not available. I have beta 3 currently installed but trying to re – download for my other mac as this laptop is too old for handoff – and it’s not even that old. I think the BT LE requirement is bullshit.

  23. Marc Ripoll - 10 years ago

The same… My AppStore was freeze with the code.
