Several new banks get Apple Pay support including USAA, US Bank, Barclaycard, PNC, more

Update: USAAUS Bank and Navy Federal have just confirmed Apple Pay support starting today. In addition, MasterCard confirmed a roll out for Barclaycard, USAA and Navy Federal Credit Union, while readers report cards from PNC, and M&T Bank also working in Apple Pay.

Ahead of a previously announced Nov. 7 launch for Apple Pay support, a number of users today report being able to load USAA issued cards into the new payment service. We’ve received tips from readers regarding support for USAA Debit MasterCards and a long list of other customers online report support for other card types through the bank.

Apple has yet to update its support document detailing supported banks and card types. Currently the list includes American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, J.P Morgan, Merrill Lynch, U.S. Trust and Wells Fargo.

A long list of other supported banks and cards are scheduled to arrive in the coming weeks and months, however. Apple previously said it had signed up approximately 500 banks for Apple Pay in the US.

If you have a card and bank supported by Apple Pay and haven’t set it up on your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3, you can check out our video tutorial for a step-by-step guide.

We’ve reached out to USAA to confirm that Apple Pay support is officially available but did not immediately hear back.

Navy Federal Credit Union went live today, too.

My Apple Pay USAA card looks nothing like my actual card, but that’s okay.

I think it looks better than the actual cards. They need more color options too. I have 3 cards, and I confuse 2 of them all the time.

Same here, I have a Debit and a MasterCard, neither looks like the actual cards. I do believe I read somewhere that banks were working on updating the card displays in Pay to reflect that of the physical card. My debit card is the standard issue blue USAA card, but my MasterCard has the two F-35’s or F-22’s. I hope they update it soon.

Looks like PNC is SORTA working now…though the verification process seems like a nightmare, I can’t get get my card verified (phone only)

Was hoping to see Simple on this list.

      It’s coming

Yes, as @nathanwise says, it *is* “coming soon.” I spoke with them and they’re are working it out. Don’t know what that means, but I have Simple, and I actually really like them. So I’ll be waiting patiently.

Cool now they just have to focus on retailers, plenty of banks and cards already on board

I have a REI Visa that’s issued through US Bank. Wasn’t sure it would go through since it’s not issued directly through the bank. No problem. I did have to call a number for verification but that took all of a minute. Just wish my own bank would work. I want a debit card on Apple Pay.

Apply Pay can only hold up to 8 cards total. Wonder why Apple would even set a limit on number of cards that can be stored in Apple Pay

    • tokyojerry - 9 years ago

That’s the starting point. I imagine they will expand on that over time and with demand. Personally I don’t even want to have half that number of credit cards.

Just tried to verify barclaycard. It’s rough. While the automated # mentions Apple Pay, there’s no option for it on the dialer–just speak to a rep. Once I got to a rep, they quickly booted me to Applecare support. Not sure how I properly verify this card…

My USAA card went live today and I purchased a Happy Meal for my daughter at McDonald’s. The transaction took less than five seconds and I was surprised at how very quick and easy it was! It works exactly the way Apple described it! I am very pleased. Now to hit-up Staples!

Just added my US Bank card to my Apple Pay so i can verify this one works fine…. I’ll have to leave it to others to verify the other financial institutions… THANKS !!!!!

  11. I wish Huntington would go live soon. I tweeted their customer support account about 2 weeks ago and they have no clue when they’ll be supported.

Both my USAA MasterCard and Debit MasterCard set up without any issues today. Great!

Just added my LLBean card (Barclay Bank) and USAA M/C. My Amex card has already been used and works fine.

One feature of Apple Pay has not received a great deal of attention – notifications. Apparently instant notifications are set up by default. Whenever an Apple Pay-enabled card is “swiped”, a notification of the charge amount and merchant is sent immediately to your phone. I have received notifications of the charge and merchant while sitting at a restaurant table while the server is “away” swiping the card. I have already seen the charge even before the server returns. This is awesome! And it has very positive implications for security.

I’m all in for Apple Pay. I hope that Apple gets this right and that the system is truly secure. If it stands the test of time, it’s a winner!

It would be nice to know Apple’s expansion plan for the rest of the world.
