Starbucks for iOS adds in-app ordering for Portland customers, more cities expected in 2015

The official Starbucks app for iOS has gotten an over-the-air update that enabled the ability to place an order right from the app, but only for users in Portland, Oregon. Users will now be able to create an order and pay for it directly from their phones, and find their coffee waiting for them at the counter when they arrive.

To start using the new ordering feature, just open up the app and look for the new “Order” tab on the main screen. Users hoping to take advantage of the feature outside of Portland will need to wait, but probably not for long. Starbucks says it wants to roll the feature out on a city-by-city basis in 2015.

The Starbucks app is available for free on the iOS App Store.

Nice, rolling out another useless feature that no one really wants or needs…

How about you bring back all the features you strip mined from the old app, like your menu and nutritional info?!?!

Oh, and while you’re working on bringing that back into the new app, get rid of the freaking NAG to upgrade in the old app EVERY TIME you try launching it!!!

Unfortunately they did;t mention it in the article, but this update actually did bring back the Menu, with nutritional info available for each item

    • This is a feature I’ve been waiting for… my office is right next to one of the busiest Starbucks in Pittsburgh. Naturally, it’s the coffee shop I go to because it is right next door. Sometimes a visit takes 10 minutes or more just due to the volume of customers. Ordering in app will save time for me and for the Starbucks staff who won’t need to bother themselves with my transaction… I essentially can ring it up myself. And then I can just say ‘hi’ instead of shouting a sequence of words that describe a beverage.

So maybe I am the only one who wants it… but I do agree with Edison: the lack of nutrition information is a serious oversight in the app. A forward-thinking organization like Starbucks should be embracing and cultivating it’s customer’s ability to make health-related menu decisions.

The menu is back. It’s available to everyone and is also part of the ordering interface.
